I also read the same in 'Alawayazhagan' by Jegasirpiyan, is it true? The author says, Koperunghinganan was a direct descendant of the Pallavas and he was ruling as the sitrarasan of Thirunavalur nadu from Sendhamangalam.
Dear Sampath interesting Read..More interesting is the similarities in the Mamallapuram Ankorwat complex pictures.. I dont think the Kalki is to be blamed for Pallavas lack of importance as she has said there is still a debate as to the origin of pallavas..some even claming they were from the far east..or from north...
Kalki doesnt make Arulmozhi or VD very valiant as Narasimha pallava in all fairness one stays in the Viharam and the other gets rescued by all sorts of people they are more human heros (at least as far as PS) than the calculating and stragetic Narasimha pallava I dont think Kalki can be balmaed if at all anything he created an an awareness...in the darkness of our heritage
kalki actually glorfied pallavas by writing 'sivakamiyin sabatham'.Had ponniyin selvan wasnt written SS would have been the greatest historical novel ever written in tamil. He also wrote parthiban kanavu.
Pallavas were great kings. But they ruled for a short period 3 centuries only.Chera, chola and pandyas were there from ramayan period till middle of 2nd millenium. So they deserve to be claled as moovendar.
dear all kalki actually gave more credit to the pallavas than they deserved on the religious front. for most of his life mamalla's father the pallava king was a bigot and a tyrant. tortured hindus mercilessly. during the last days he became a hindu. kalki makes him look like a benovelent king. actually he was the guy who tied appar onto a stone pillar and cast him into the sea. in ss he is telling his son that appar had to be evacuated before pulikesi came
Venkatesh, mahendravarma torturing appar is found only in shavite puranas and not an ounce of evidence for this is found in any kalvettus or records. If such an incident happened why dint a single kalvettu record this?
Do you really believe that appar came alive from sunnambu kalavai and floated in stone in sea water?
I believe in God and everybody in this forum knows that. But IMHO miracles ended with krishnavathar. In kaliyug miracles arent possible.God still keeping earth alive after all the atrocities mankind has done is the greatest miracle.
dear Sampath Dear Sampath Miracles are god's visiting cards. I dont think he has run out of them after krishna avataar. perhaps in our fast moving world we fail to observe them. too often they are termed as just co incidences we discussed that in the group earlier but no harm repeating.
the fishermen of killai village near chidambaram have the traditional right/ habit of pulling nataraja's charriot on arudra darisanam. last year the whole village came and camped in chidambaram and the puja to the charriot with the idol was performed around 8.30.
around that time the tsunami sank their entire village. not a single casualty. you might ask why did the tsunami hurt them economically and i might not have an answer but I personally saw these people on the day of their saving, and in them saw the hand writing of god.

sampath we have had heated discussions on the aspect whether kalvettus are the pillar holding up tamil history.
giving so much importance to them without tracing other sources are a great mistake we will do as serious historians.
first of all almost all your kalvettus are in temples. the priority of these kalvettus was to establish grants for them.
for example if you read karuvurars thiruvisaipa he describes tanjore town on its hey day( possibly on the kumbabishekam day of periya koil) and there are people who say he did not even live in that period because there is no kalvettu)
kalvettus in the big temple are mainly to those who gave to the temple ( as grants) and those who received from the temple(as salaries) karuvur siththar was in no position for both. the thirumurais are perhaps the most popular written documents we have from the period we are studying( 6- 10th century anno domini) they may not be your history books but they just cannot be ignored. even periya puranam describing the saints was written in the later chola period.
two of the greatest kings mahendran and nedumaran of the period (the pallavas and pandyas) were converted to hindus during the period of sambanthar and apar. i for one beleive nothing shot of a miracle could have persuaded these two bigots to change their spots.
if I have to beleive somebody, I d rather beleive a saint than a stenographer.
i remember a conversation with somebody.... where in i was asking him that if everything would happen as per fate then why worshi god???
the person replied... worshipping god is to minimise casulaities.. for instance , fate may dictate that i may go to parrys corner from my residence.. but my worshipping would decide whether i would take the crowded bus or a comfortable car.....
people may say that that is also fate.. i am not in a position to argue...
but now poeple may think... why am i in Uganda , rwanda and other places?? fate or improper worshipping??? avan mattume arivaaan....
