Malik Kafur :: Serial no:
  • dear all

malik kafur comes the topper when we list indian conquerors thro out
history on basis of territory acquired
more than many we consider heroes.

conquerors should be compared on the area acquired rather than
    religious principles
  • Malikgaffor comes topper in terms of Indian conqurers?I am sorry. It
wasnt him.I can remember so many others who conquered more
    territories than him.

Rajendra cholan:In north upto ganges,in west upto river sind,in
south srilanka,in east java sumatra...This must be the largest ever
    indian empire.

kashmir in north to kanyakumari in south.

in north to senji in south.

malik gaffur wasnt a king.He was a general. He did not have any tough
opposition(not his fault though)His fate was cruel. He killed alladin
gilji and blinded his son,but was killed cruelly later.
  • True sampath

malik kafur was a soldier( the naib sultan they called him- one who
could stand in for a sultan if the latter was inapacitated)

malik was the last greatest conqueror befor the start of gunwielding
    warfare.literally hand to hand fighting
before that it was sheer guts only and a sharpened blade only.
he came up to madurai and many say rameshwaram
hoysalas, yadavas, rudras of warrangal and the tamil kings succumbed
to him in less than 3 years or so
in fact it was malik who made allaudin a great king.
earlier he depended on 4 khans i am told.zafar he lost to the
mongols. the rest to wine and women.

when we count aurangazebs territory we should subtract shajahans from
    it.
similarly victoria's territory should have the east india company's
    territory subtracted from it.
rajendrans empire must subtact rrc's territory.

perhaps i am wrong when i said malik conqured more territory.

i should have been right if i had also said conquered it personally
and in a short span( aurangazeb ruled for something like 40 years
    didnt he)
  • The unspeakable sacrilage of the plunder of Madurai by
Malik Kafur created such a terror in the minds of
people in Madurai that reminds even today. In the
Meenatchi Amman temple, there is still a lingam whose
top was broken by the crow bars of Malik's army.

As per temple records, the priests sealed the main
shrines and kept dummy statues before the sanctum so
the original deities are not humiliated. The are many
legends of miracles that happened when the Malik's
army camped in the temple. A stone elephant that holds
Lord Somasundarars shrine ate a sugar cane. When the
army left and when the priests opened the shrines, the
    lamps were still glowing inside...

One mans ruthlessness can not be used to brand a whole
community. There are many such individuals in human
history that never carried any value for life or
civilization before and after our Malik. Take for
example, the Jalianwalla Bagh massacre by the british
in our own times. We have not banned british or their
language in our lives. Aren't we?

We humans should learn from history how to live and
how not to live. Forgiveness is the greatest of all.
  • malik looted madurai temple but did not raze it like the other
    temples on the way
one main reason was that he saw the kalyanai eating karumbu

and who was the person who prompted this scenario

a sidhar whose shrine is still there opposite the lingam that is
    broken

perhaps the sidhar was lord shiva himself

and why should lord shiva give a darshan to a non beleiver and a
    temple breaker?

but actually the lamp burning and inscence smoke happened tenyears
later. and perhaps even the idol breaking. malik came and left in 1314
another invasion of the thukluks came in 1320 or so and left behind a
    madurai sultanate.
the temple lamp burning was witnessed by kempenna 50 years later
