kalki was burdened with writing a section every week and had to do so for long. there were some lapses in continuity as well as errors. quite a few of them the most common is nanthini's portrayal but there were other ones too.
please lets not bother about repetition. , dont we read ponniyin selvan again and again.?
let all the expert commentators give their opinions. where all did kalki err? instances where the master tripped? come on lets list them
I wouldnt call them as errors,but would call them as illogical.
1.Why should aditha karikalan commit suicide after hearing that veerapandiyan is Nandhini's father?What's so earth shaking about this?
2.Mandakini is shown to be in deep love with sundara cholan.But suddenly she is said to have had illicit relationship with pandya king and said to have had two children through him.Surprisingly she follows sundara chola even after it and considers PS as her son.She doesnt bother about two children born to her.Not even a visit or enquiry through poonguzali.
3.Maturanthakan is said to be a coward.But suddenly he defeates chinna paluvettarayar and nearly kills him.Kalki justifies this by saying that paluvetrrarayar did not fight with his full heart and hesitated since his daughter would become a widow.But kalki earlier writes that chinna paluvettarayar did not hesitate to try to kill his elder brother in the court of sundara cholan,when periya paluvettarayar confessed he killed aditha karikalan.What happened to that iron will when maturanthakan fought with him?
4.The reasons for nandhini sparing the life of vandiya thevan is not clear.
5.Arulmozhi is shown to be taking many unwanted risks.He goes into fort of mahinda disguised as a mahout for seeing the artworks.This looks like an image buildup attempt by kalki and not something which an intelligent commander-in-chief like arulmozhi would have done.
6.Almost all the love affairs are love at first sight.Vanathi- arulmozhi,kundavai-vanthiyathevan,manimegalai- vanthiyathevan,paluvettarayar-nandhini,mandakini-sundaracholan...all are variants of love at first sight.

Mandhakini's liason with the Pandya king was when she was in a post traumatic stressed state and amnesic....The whole emphasis of her love for her former lover is showered on arulmozhi....Maybe she has no recollection of her twins at all

Stress and Adrenaline will make a man do anything because it is life or death so Madhuranthagan fighting with vigour is acceptable and chinna Pazhuvettarayar unsheaths his sword but did not defeat periayavar...

in the earlier scenes kalki makes us beleive murugaiyan the brother of punkuzhali is dumb.( a family trait) but in the later chapters, especially in the elephant episode in thiruvarur he talks a lot. venketesh

While the murder of AK is a historical fact, I think we are mixing the facts with the fiction of PS. 1. Nandhini is a fictious character and no reason to assume that she existed. 2. Ravidasan is a historical character who was punished for the murder of AK. 3. There is no supporting evidence that the murder took place in kadambur palace. It could've been Kanchi or even Tanjai. No proof here. 4. Again, whether the murder weapon was a vaal(sword) or a knife is not a concrete fact. It can be poison or treachery of some other kind. 5. Timing of the murder is also not clear. As someone mentioned, there are not many inscriptions for this time period and the year of murder has a 3 year range.

I think what we should talk about is how kalki weaves his fascinating web. so all those in nanthinis room including karikalan himself are suspects
in one room karikalan and nanthini are arguing behind the curtains or so is a hidden manimekalai. at the entrance to the room are vanthiya thevan in a faint and periya pazhuvettaraiyar who almost strangled him and behind them in the vettai mandapam are ravithasan and idumban kari

nanthini patriotic, personal( beware the woman who was scorned)
periya pazuvettaraiyar- suspects a liason between his wife and the victim
manimekalai- could have thought she was helping her lover vanthiyathevan
poor vanthiyathevan was the only one with no motive but was arrested for the murder
both periya pazuvettaraiyar and manimekalai confess to the murder at different times
so who held the hilt of the sword and changed history?

in one conversation between thiyaga vidangkar- the keeper of the kighthouse and vanthiya thevan the former acknowledges his son is physically challenged and cannot speak its coming in chapter 4 of book 2 ( oh my , i am now like a pastor who quotes from the bible with chapter names and numbers )
actually 3 days back i have downloaded the entire text of ps and do a word search when needed.
but kalki makes this murugaiyan speak chapters of dialougue in the episode of the elephant in thiruvarur.
Dear Seenu, But in lot of places we can found cinematic.
1) Poongkulazhi meeting AMV and VD in the middle of the sea and saves them
2) Aazhvaarkadiyan often meets and saves VD
3) AMV rescues Vanathi, in a flood situation along with Poongulazhi
4) AMV and VD rescues Nanthini and Manimegalai
5) VD rescued in most of the places by some one or the other
All these and much more are cinematic....may be but realistic actually as opposed to arulmozhi swimming with VD in his shoulders all the way to Nagai or VD outfighting and outwitting others everytime ...Thats cinematic...Kalkis charectors are fallible they are rescued by women and others they do get scared they do get upset.....They are not infallible tamil movie heroes
