Goals for our group
  • Guys, I just thought of what goals we should setup for
    our group:

[1] Recovery of Pallipadai of RRC & RJC ( Probably, we
can publish a book on all Pallipadais with rich
photographs and historical research content )

[2] Exclusive manual on RRC times with rich
    photographs and research content

    Please add / delete ...
  • Great Ideas. I would actually dearly love to come out with an illustrated
book on "Vanthiyathevan's Journey" or something like that. Visiting all the
places on the routes he took, photos of all the major temples/historical
features along the route etc. That would be neat what?
  • Excellent idea.

Another thing I thought of: to have some celebreties
such as Kamal Hassan and R.S. Manohar ( the drama
specialist ) enrolled as our team members ( though
they may not have time for that, but still can post
messages occationally ) because of their interest in
    PS.
  • Dear VK
I personally dont favoutr that idea Infact we tried with Madan and no response....
All the inspired young and old alike are working towards something mgnificent....I personally feel the media stars will only highjack this and not actually contribute significantly...Kamal has been talking about PS movie from the time i was in school...

May be we can invite them to the inaguration of PSVP or Sadaya Vizha.....If they are genuinely interested anybody is welcome but lets not seek big names just for publicity we have achieved a great deal on our own right and rightly so
  • aiyaamaargale, ammaamaargaley,

thappi thavari kooda kamalhaasanai groupla saerthudaadheenga.......

uruppadiya nadakkara vishayathai vida... niraiya kuzhappadi dhaan nadakkum

    edho enakku thoninadhai sollitten
  • I propose that we ( This Group )

design and host a spectacular web page for RajaRajeshwaram.
My searches on GOOGLE for the Big Temple bring our PATHETIC pages.
Ofcourse , except those on varalaaru.com - which in my view is more
of a magazine than a information page.

    It is do-able.
Given the ware-house of information that people here are , i really
suppose this would be a significant step.

HECK ! I cant find a proper Big Temple WALLPAPER !
Come to think of it !
  • Hey , i meant searches on Gooogle bring OUT pathetic pages.
    Not "our" pathetic pages.Typo. :(
  • amarnath,

kavalai padaadheenga.... nammalayum ariyaama unmai sila samayam velippattudum......Arasiyalla idhellaam saadhaaranamappa.....
  • Eh ? ;)
    I have a proper excuse , 't' and 'r' are nearby. :-)

Besides , true , there is no single comprehensive website/page on the
Big Temple.Even here. What folks write in Varalaaru is great , but they
do fall short of being a one-stop comprehensive source of information
about the temple - in both English and Tamil.

I understand that people could be busy and that is exactly where folks
like me can chip in.Just like the legendary squirrel.
  • Dear Amarnath
that was an excellent Idea you are echoing my sentiments

    See the website for
    Warwick Castle below
    http://www.warwick-castle.co.uk/warwick2004/tc_explore_castle.htm

or even much closer the Taj mahal

    http://www.taj-mahal.net/blackLarge.htm

We should have something like this

    the historic background
    RRC and his regime
The construction of temple the plans
    The workmanship and raw materials

The interactive temple structure highlighting scuptural marvels
Virtual tour of the inside f the gopuram

Amendments and additions by later kings

    Importnat festivities

    Myths and Legends

Any takers among the computer experts???
  • DR. Sir,

The things u have listed are life time ambitions of scholars like Dr,Kalaikkovan, Kudavoil Balu etc :-)
  • Ram
    Its every ones dream
the only difference we can make that happen as we have accomplished with Varalaru...In fact it easier because you are just concentrating on one structure as oopposed to on going research and evolution..
i dont deny there are so many things that are evolving even in Big Temple...like the cannon balls in keralanthagan gopuram...

The point is we have the experts who can accomplish it
So I think it is worth persueing
  • Dear Sridhar,

There is no debate on the worthiness of the research and documentation of he rajarajisaram. I was just trying today, that temple is real real huge and one's lifetime is not enough to do a complete research. However, we should start pooling in with smaller efforts from a larger chunk of people and eventually one day we will be able to appreciate the greatness of that monument completely at one place.

    Ram
  • Sridhar

I am not a computer expert , but can really do a mules job.
Donkey No #1 reporting for duty. ;-)

    On a serious note....

You have echoed my sentiments.Varalaaru's focus is on the entire
Tamil/South Indian history. We need something specific for
    RajaRajeshwaram.

The site could begin with a brief introduction to Cholas and RRC.
Then the temple itself , virtual tour and other things you have
    pointed out like festivals etc.

I have a friend who is a excellent web developer besides i can always
chip in too.I do not suppose funds are going to be a hinderance of
any sort.I volunteer to buy out a domain name and some space.

We could go on to do all Chola temples in the long term , but for now
we shall have to stick to Rajarajeshwaram.

Indians in general have been poor in recording history.Raja Raja
defied that with his meikirtis and inscriptions. His story must be
    told on the internet.
  • Good participation from everyone...

But who knows, in the process of research we might even stumble upon something like "Periya koil was built by somebody else and not RRC"!!!!!!!!!!!

(now , pls don't shout at my weird thinking!!!)
  • Doctor are you safe? Heard there was one more blast in London few
hours ago. Please be safe and take care.

nan vera summ illama innikku oru reply ezhuthi vachchena (AK murder),
    manasu padhaikuthu.

Few of my friends are in London. Just got the news that one couple are
safe. Should enquire about the others.

    Please be careful.

    swetha
  • Dear Swetha and SPS
thats very kind of you to enquire We are save by gods grace
  • Agreed. Valid Point.
  • Hi

So are there any takers for my idea ?
i.e. : a neat site for the big temple with exhaustive details about
    the temple.

The content and the manner of presenting it are yet to be decided.
I find it rather boring to see the Taj associated with India always.

The idea is to put the message across , 'Look we have better things to
    show you '

Another fascinating detail about RRC is that he was the one among the
very very few ancient Indians to have 'recorded' history.

Therefore , i think it is our duty to put the story of RRC 'on record'.

Besides - I love the Big Temple, although i am yet to visit it in
person.THAT temple is a part of our identity. It deserves to be given
    some unique space.

Folks who are eager to chip in the project are welcome to email me at
    amarnathgovindarajan AT yahoo dot com.
  • Hi,

Let us do this through our group ( or probably a
permanent web page on varalaaru.com ) itself...

The reason is, there are many learned men here who
have done so much researching RRC & Big Temple. Their
inputs are vital to such an attempt.
  • Hi,

The site -if built ,will be built with the support and affiliation of
the group. There is simply too much information that can be gained here.

However , the idea that we could host permanent pages on varalaaru.com
    has to be debated

Personally , i dont think it would serve much purpose to do it.A
standalone website is a better idea.

    YES YES

    I TOTALLY AGREE
