    Which is the Tallest Gopuram in India or the world?

    Is it Periya Koil because no other culture had the centre vimana taller than the rajagopuram



    When I Did a Google search it said Madarapalli in Andra...But no solid Eveidence



    Any Thoughts

    Dear Sri,
    My search resulted different results. Many sites say Madurai
    Meenakshi temple has the tallest gopuram in the world.
    Some other sites said Srirangam temple has the tallest goupuram in
    Inida. If in India it should be in the world, right,...I dont
    understand this logic.

    Why there is no proper information about this? Can we get authentic
    info on this?

    Gopuram and Vimaanam are two different entities.

    Gopuram is nothing but the structure built on the entrance.

    Vimaanam is the structure built on the sanctum.

    There are a very few temples have their vimaanam taller than it's gopuram
    like Periya koyil, GKC, Darasuram, Thirubuvanam, etc. Among the vimaanams,
    Periya koyil is the tallest (216 feet).

    What are the measurements of Madhurai and Srirangam?

    Vimaam is what I meant..If this is the tallest why are we not
    boasting about it

    Lets be fair

    Periya koil was bult in 1080 or somewhere there
    GKC 1100 something

    Srirangam and Meenakshi Temple

    THERE ARE SO ANY VARIOATIONS IN CHRONOLOGY AND HEIGHTS

    Sri,

    Periya koyil was built during 1004-1010. GKC is sometimes between 1030 and
    1040. I don't know about the exact period of GKC.
