Janjgir - Incomplete Work of Vishvakarma
  • Hi Friends,
Janjgir is the headquarter of a district of same name in Chhattisgarh. There
are two temples, one incomplete temple of Vishnu and another one is Shiva
temple. The Vishnu temple is very profusely carved that you see a deluge of
images in front of you all around the temple. Various interesting icons,
both Vaishnava and Shaiva, are present on the external walls of the temple.
Some points to notice in album and article:

    1. Ramayana panels of the platform
    2. Vishnu incarnations around the temple
    3. Life-size river goddesses and dvarpala
    4. Shiva as Ardhnareeshvar, Harihara and other icons

The temple can be dated to Kalchuri period of twelfth century CE.
