Visalur - Early Chola Temple dedicated to Shiva
  • Hi Friends,
Visalur, a small village in Pudukkottai, has an early Chola temple dedicated
to Shiva. The earliest inscription found in temple is from the Chola king
Rajaraja I however it is a donative record. Confirming to other early structures
it has Dakshinamurti on south, Vishnu on west and Brahma on north. Pandya-s
extended their patronage to this temple after the Chola-s.

  • Hi Priya,
Thanks you very much for nice comments. Please accept my apologies that I do not
understand Tamil hence cant read your blog however I enjoyed the photographs in
that. During my search on internet I cam across few videos where this temple was
featured, are these regarding your trip?

  • Hi Saurabh,

Sorry you couldn't read the article - but yes, the video you've linked to,
is where I have the pictures from (we recorded it during the
Visalur-Malayadipatti-Kunrandar Koil trip with Dr Kalaikkovan). I didn't
take the video, though - I think it was Kamalakkannan (the video appears to
have been uploaded by the Varalaaru team.)

Btw - its Pavithra, not Priya. :)
  • Thanks Saurabh for the wonderful post
