Flag hoisting in Aadhi Kumbeswarar - Nageswarar - Kasiviswanathar - Abhimukeswarar :: Siva temples on the 26th;
Flag hoisting in Sarangapani - Sakkarapani - Ramasamy - Aadhivaraha - perumal temples on the 27th;
10 days Uthasavam in these temples.
All the above plus 9 other (Koteeswara - Kambatta viswanatha - kalahastheeswara - ekambara- someswara - Guthameswara - Banapureswara - Amirthakalasanatha & Rajagopalaswamy) temples THEERTHA VARI ( Uthsava dieties going to the Mahamaham tank & Cauvery) will be conducted on the 6th March.
Culturally we have been worshipping / thanksgiving to all the five elements :: This is dedicated to Water!
i was born and brought up in kumabakonam. i still remember my good old school days ( previous mahamaham ) in which i took bath in mahamaham tank at 3 AM in the morning .. after that i viewed everything lively in CABLE TV... That was a great experience. all the houses in kumbakonam will be filled with relatives & friends. schools will be closed for more than 20 days ( what else u want in school days ) .. kumbakonam used to get as much government projects as possible ... As u all know kumbakonam is a temple town. sorry to say that i donot know much abt the historical importance of each temple but sure
are worth to see many times .. Each & every youth in kumbakonam have handful of stories to talk abt these places ( ofcourse not much of its historical importance but abt their day to today school , college life ) . these are the meeting places for friends ( daraswaram is the meeting place for us to escape from the so called parent torture for studyies ) , study rooms for many ( i still remember those days in which i had studied with my friends in the second floor of the swamimalai temple) , poothi maram for few , romance place for few , walking place for few ... etc. perhaps all the important decision of the youth life were taken on the floors of these temples only .
During exam times sure these gods are very busy .. many of the friends still used to say that they passed the exams bcos of the grace of sakrapani.
i used to feel that we do not have sujatha ( kind of writers ) to make these stories popular similar to srirengathu devathigal (of sujatha ) .
Mahamaham is always special for kumbakonam ppl except for the killing of 45 - 50 PPL in the previous one ..
Hope i will get to know more abt the historical importance of my town thro this thread.
The "Sujatha" in us should make us write more about our places & peoples : Kudanthai .. Thanjai .. Madurai .. Nellai .. Kovai .. Salem .. & what not ... ?!
