chidambaram letters: my trip to kodun-koloor
  • respected freinds,
in 2006 i had an opurtunity to go to thiru-anjai-kalam(thiuvanchikulam). i saw the the sundaramoorthy nayanar samadhi inside the mahadevan temple. the temple had been modelled on chidambaram. the place has also a samadhi for kulasekhara alwar. the historic kodunkoloor bagawathi amman is considered by the locals as kannagi dheivam.

the feeling was very great and i felt i have seen the ancient chera capital. on returning i saw the cheraman mosque and st.thomas museum. the way kerala history turned was telling on these two places.

way back i went to thirisoor (THIRU-SIVA-PEROOR). it was a very clean beutifull town and was the capital of the later kochi provice. the temple of vadaku nathar is well maintained. but its historic back ground was not clear. it appears to be a early medievel savite temple. i do not know whether it has connections with the sangam age?

  • Dear Thiru Gandhiram,

There are two informations "new" to me on what you have stated below and very useful in my research study on Kodungallur. They are,

    (1) Sunderamoorthy Naayanaar Samathi

    (2) Kulasekara Aalvaar Samaathi

If you know more informations on same, that you would have come to know, could you very kindly let us know through this Forum.

Now I wish to draw you kind attention to my very recent article in this Forum titled "The great significance of Kodungallur of Kerala in the history of Kerala and Tamil Nadu - Part 1"

The Part - 2 of this research article will appear in this same Forum in a weeks time.

o Kodungallur, on the Cheraman mosque, Bagawathi Amman Temple, Thiruvanchikulam Temple etc etc.

Trust they too will be of interest to you.

  • Dear Gandhiram,

VANCHI @ THIRUVANCHIKKALAM :: Much discussed in our Group.
    Capital of Chermanperumal ..

Our dear Gokul once pointed out that there were almost 5 different splinter Groups of Cheras ruling erstwhile chera kingdom ranging from Trivananthapuram on the southern tip to Manglore on the North.

Cheramanperumal befriended Sundara and reached Kalisasam along with him, hymned on Kailsaam first-hand version and these are recorded in Periyapuranam - Vellaiyanai sarukkam - thirukkayilaya gnana ula .. !!

Thiruchur - where Adisangara's parents performed Bajanam prior to his birth - is as ancient as Vanchi !!

thank you so much for sharing.
