I was about to say that, I started off with Sandilyan and moved to Kalki.
  • In that case...it is now not illegal to scan these books and put it
    online...isn't it?

  • I think yes! But what about the publisher's rights?
  • HI
you have to painstakingly type out the entire text if you want to put
    it on the net.

scanning from a published book would still be an offence but i dont
think any body would now object to it.

would project madurai now add cheraman kathali and sandilyans books?

  • HI

2 objections have risen from the families of the autors whose books
    were nationalised.
both co incidentally run publishing houses.

kannadasans family has objected saying the govt did not consult him.

  • Scanned pages can be converted to text with OCR software; of course the
converted text may have to be edited as the OCR is not 100% accurate and
    can do funny things.

Though scanned images retain authenticity, it is a pain to read the
pages, especially if the book is old, brown and dog-eared.

But the primary objective, saving for posterity is achieved by scanning.
