>There is a song in th Movie manohara on this vasantha vizha
>thats when the vasantha sena vs manohara problems ring out...
>I am sure Sri Ram Sena does not want to hear about this :-)
I think Ram sena or any sena's objection is not about valentine's day but the manner it is being projected in india. As if boys & girls have to roam outside.
By the way muslim organizations also object to this.
They do not allow co eds in madrasaas. No one will raise this for fear of vote bank getting lost

This is going to be a contreversial topic but then i dont think boys and girls going out is not an alien concept which is being portrayed as brought by the europeans.
we have such a wonderful history of romance.to rephrase it when people on other continents were hanging on trees our teenagers were dating.

when muslim invasions were there they broke statues around temples claiming they were obscene.
Hi Venkatesh, If Indira vizha is celebrated like this, valentine's day has no relevance or similarity with Indira vizha. It was a more official, public function. The valentine day and the pub culture has lot of side effects. Sampath
"The festival usually commenced with a group beating drums and announcing to the people the start of the celebrations. The citizens of the town then cleaned the streets and roads and redecorate the city, with each house being adorned with many decorations. The officials of the kingdom would pay their respects to the king and wish him and the kingdom well. Musical performances would be held and the fire oblations offered in many temples for Siva, Vishnu and other deities. The festival ended with people bathing in the sea with the members of the family. It was generally believed that this festival was actually a prayer to Indra, and would remove the difficulties and dangers to those who celebrate it. "
