Thanks. Is there any documentation available online or otherwise about this particular practice ?
Dr.Deivanayagam of Tamil University has written about Chola Empire and Chao Praya Delta ( Thailand ) which describes the ancient connections of Tamils with Thailand. He lists so many similarities between Thais and Tamils.
One of the interesting facts is that 'Thiruvempavai' is recited in the Royal Courts of Thailand !
( An interesting side story is that many Thai nationals did not take it lightly to his suggestion that the old name of Bangkok - 'Krungthep' actually came from the tamil - Kurangu Thopu !)
During the same time as the traditional Tamil New Year, Apr 13-14, Thailand also celebrates the Songran - Thai New Year festival !
During this festival, among other things, there is this practice of throwing water on all ( not just friends or family !)

Dr. Nagaswamy submitted a paper on matters related to these and Cambodian - Tamil relationship also - during last year Seminar conducted in Singapore ..
Dear sir, I don't know whether there is any documentation over this aspect as I think that it is a village practise. But I've seen this custom because I live at Rajapalayam (Ayyanar kovil road) where this happens on Chithirai pongal which is famous there. Not exactly but there may be a link between this custom and the Vasantha vizhaa festival in MANIMEKALAI. If I get anything related I'll let you know. And I'm really interested in what you say of the Thais and the Thamizhs. Please share any other informations of the relating concepts of Thamizhs and the south east asians. Thanks a lot.
