I got these info from KAN.Sastri's book 'History of South India'.
Parantaka ruled from 907-955.
Kandarathithar ruled for 2 years. 956-957.
Veera Pandian was killed around 957-959, since Sundara Chola ascended throne by 957 and Chola forces invaded Lanka by 959.
If we assume Uthama Seeli was killed towards the end of Parantaka's reign, say 950 and Veera Pandiyan was killed by Aditha Karikalan in 958 there are hardly 8-10 years between the two events.
As to the ages, let us work back from Aditha Karikala's age in 958, say 20, then Sundara Chola & Uthama Seeli might have been around 40-50.
So in 950s, Uthama Seeli might have been around 30-40 years of age.
BUT
KAN Sastri makes no mention about a son 'Uthama Seeli'.
But he mentions about a son of Paranthaka named 'Arikulakesari' who was sent to assist Rajaditya to Tondai Mandalam. He does not say what happened to him after that.
Any body has KAN.Sastri's 'Colas'? May be he might have given more details there.
Karthikeyan Sundara chola and Uthamaseeli?arivukesari cannot be of the samea age as arinjaya chola was the youngest of Paranthakas sons and Sundara chola as his son
Since there is just a gap of 8 - 10 years, Veera Pandiyan could have been around 30 years when he was killed by AK.
Say, he killed Uthama Seeli (40-50 years), when he was 20-25 in 950(?), and he was killed by AK in 958, he might have been around 30-35. Not old, just middle-aged.
But Uthama seeli was killed before the thakolam war in which rajathithar (the eldest)was in his twenties and sundarachola was event not born.....and aditha karikalan was not even thought of....
Sorry. I was not aware of these details. Since Gokul has mentioned that these mishappenings happened towards the end of Parantaka's reign, I assumed it happened approximately around 950 and calculated based on that.
Coming to think of it, we do not know much about the date of birth of the Kings, right? Since culverts generally deal with the date of coronation or say some thing like 'this happened on the 26th year of his rule'. Or, are there any sources of knowing their Date of births apart from general terms like 'very young' and 'very old'?
Uttama seeli was not killed before Rajaditya. Infact very little details are available about uttama seeli and arikulakesari - so little that even KAN avoided him.
When I read Veera pandiya claimed the title "chozhan thalai konda" I could not identify which chozha he killed for a very long time. I searched KAN, Sadsasiva pandarathar, Mangala Murugesan and a dozen other authors - but not data was available.
Thalai izhandha chozhan yaar endru theriyamal en thalai vedithu vidum bol irunthathu !
Kudanthai N.Sethuraman came to the rescue. It was his data that veera pandiya killed uttama seeli. Remember that kudanthai did intense research on later pandiyas and brought out many facts to light. His book Pandiyar varalaaru stands next to KAN and Sadasiva pandaratar.
I will write in detail about veera pandiyan in facts and fiction a while later to set your doubts to rest.
