Sangam Age collection is excellent and interesting. Some clarification needed.
1.IS THIS ONLY CHOLA RACE? (MuRkkaala chozhar)
2. 25 years period you have given as a gap. Is this only for the sake of approximate period.
3. Can you enlighten us with some more contemporary kings name? PerumbaanaaRRuppadai mention Ilanthiraiyan and Karikalan.
4. Rajasuyam vetta Perunarkilli. - Shall we take this period, veda sampradaya started in Tamilnadu?. There were several references about yagnas in Silappathikaaram.
Dhivakar ================
Dear Dhivakar,
In one of my earliest mails on the tamil New year subject - I put forward two things...
One was ironically the Tamil New Year names are NON-TAMIL ..
The Origin cannot be traced to Chozha - Pandya Rule (till 1400 AD) so should have been " after- thoughts " - IDAI CHERUGALs.. during post Nayak regime.
Since there was not opposing view, I just wanted to look into these aspects closely and the very WORD " SANGAM " appeared to have originated from Jain / Buddhist customs.
The compilation of Sangam Literature is one by PERUNDEVANAR..
Whether he is the same Bharatham padia Perunthevanar (of 8th AD)!
There is nothing concise on these matters...
Want to know more on Dr. U Ve Sa's introductary notes on these things too ..
So that the discussion may lead in the direction of History of Literature than on the content of Literature..
Dear Member Vairom (true to his name), Vijay, Natarajan and other members are handling the content effectively and bringing out more to the use of our Groups..
will put more in due course..
Will also put the contemporary Kings for Chedra and Pandya clan soon.
