just like kalki who dreamed to write about the past sci fiction writers dream to write about the future. and arthur clarke was foremost amongst them. many like sujatha were inspired by his writings.
my favourite writing of his was when he was challenged to write a 10 word short story clarke did
God said, 'Cancel Program GENESIS.' The universe ceased to exist."
reminds me of kalki's description of a short story in his first radio talk. - most would be knowing it already- "kumbakonaththu iyer kuttaiyila vizhunthaar. " venketesh
His second home is Colombo. And he died there only. May his soul rest in peace.

Hi actually from 1956 onwards sri lanka was his first home. he held citizenships of both lanka and england served as Chancellor of Moratuwa University- one of lanka's premier technical universities.though he died in appollo colombo he lived earlier south of colombo on the galle route.there were stories then on how he narrowly escaped the tsunami
some of his famous quotations mostly on technology( clarke was the first writer who set up a theory that sattelites could be used for communication) "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." just imagine the warriors of the lodi dynasty at panipet when faced by babar's cannon that spewed fire.
another one of his 3 laws which is applicable to all of us. "The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible."
Didn't the famous sci-fi movie of Stanley Kubrick "2001 A Space Odyssey" based on Arthur C Clarke's novel? It's considered a landmark movie of this genre.
the movie was based onclarke's novel and he wrote the scren play along with kubrik
in the words of the library of congress
it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in their National Film Registry.
but then we remember clarke for his significant scientific predictions. but he made some from the hip shots too. like he was sure that monkeys and generally the ape family will be trained to become servants for humans.
