  • Is SriRangam a proper island? If so how was it accessible from the
other side of Cauvery in ancient times.

Does the purana say how Vibisana came to SriRangam like via a boat
    etc.

stone transported for the temple ?

Any paper/book which has already covered this aspect.

  • Dear Venkat, Vijay, SM Pandian. & other friends,

    That map is very important.

Are our Government Departments capable of providing ready
    clarifications like this ?

Have they updated data created earlier by the Britishers ?

What will happen in next 50 years ?

No proper record of 100 yrs of Independence ?

    painful. sps
  • Thanks SPS. Just 'Shobha' will do, you can drop the prefix & suffix.

Incidentally chanakya's arthasastra states how a king
    who has acquired new territory
" should follow the people in their faith,
with which they celebrate their national, religious, and congregational
    festivals and amusements." Amazing.....

Dr Nagaswamy's interesting article on the legends associated with
    Ramanujar and thence sri rangam....
  • This is what I have heard from my grandfather what his elders did to go
    to tiruchy from srirangam:

    1. Walk across when the river was dry.
    2. Use parisil to cross in comfort.
    3. 'Veshtiyai mundasa kattindu' swim.

I wonder whenther we can do even the first one.

  • Hi All
There is a book ' Koyilolugu ' which gives the entire history of Sri Rangam. Many of you may be aware of this book. The original is in 'Manipravalam' . The latest edition gives the original & the commentary on it. It is in 3 parts, begining to1623AD, 1623-1803, & 1803-2005.
The inscriptions are also dealt with. Yet to read in detail.
    The publisher's website is www.srivaishnavasri.com
There is also a similar book ' Tirumalaiolugu ' about Tirupathi.
  • Hi Shobha
please do tell us about your long temple visit over last week.
would be useful for future travellers.
incidentally i am doing the same route on the opposite direction on
wednesday, but in a rush - no time for temples.
