My family deity is a Ayyanar and he does not sport any moustaches and is seen beautifully adorning an elephant.

No.. Near orathanaadu, aazhivaaikaal is the village(2kms off the main road). Some 5kms from Soorakottai (Sivaji ganesan's village).

In modern times though, Madurai is still strategic..
One can reach Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and
Bangalore in about 8 hours by road. These 3 cities are
capitals of adjacent states...
Business and culture can flourish with such

Was GKC better connected than thanjavur??
was it a possible reason for the shift
even the later pandyas had kannanur( samayapuram) and uyyakondan( a
suburb of trichy) as alternate capitals in which the co rulers
stayed.
