Some of the most powerful images from around the world
  • Dear Friends,
    The recent past history is also equally interesting. Some photos I have forwarded.
  • dear mr.dhivakar;

    great photographs. most these are award winning ones. especially that 1972
    Vietnam war photo where a plane accidentally bombs a village. This was taken
    by Nick Ut and this actually bought to light the horrors of that war to the
    american public. That crying girl in that photograph was 9 years old at that
    time and she gave an interview some years back. her name was Kim Phuc.
    The above that, the 1968 one where a police officer is shooting a citizen is
    a Pulitzer Price winning one.

    Thanks for sending them.
  • Hi,
    > The above that, the 1968 one where a police officer is shooting a citizen is a Pulitzer Price winning one.
    =========================================

    Additional info about this photo: The man being shot has betrayed a
    police family to the americans some an hour ago or so. The office
    shooting him was a war hero in Vietnam.

    Even after seeing centuries of violence, the images of these nature
    are stil being common around the world. I guess it will gonna end till
    the end of the world!!!
  • Hi

    the village was called 'my lai'.

    these photos turned the opinion of the american people against the
    war.
    the war was also symbolised by another photo. the evacuation of
    saigon.a pitiable thousand people trying to get away in one solitary
    helicopter which had landed on the roof of the american embassy.

  • Hi All,
    In this list of pics, the one about Tutsi Rebels, reminded me of the one of the recent movie which won the Oscars, "Hotel Rwanda" - a true story, happened to see that some days back. One of the gripping stories about the partiality and the dual-speak of the so-called Westernized world. A must watch for people who would have seen speilberg's epic on Holocaust.
  • Dear Dhiva
