I was reading a book called 'Karppamai iruntha kannigal' by A.K.Perumal. Perumal is a professor in Aralvaimozhi and is a field reseacher on the Gods of south Tamilnadu. This is a book about the worship of mother-Gods in Tamilnadu and it documents the categories of Gods worshipped in the villages of south Tamilnadu. There is a part where he talks about the practice of Sati in TN and the gods related to the Sati worship. He mentions the 'Singala nachiar' temple in Tanjore. He says that the second Paranthagan actually imprisoned the Eelam king (Mahindan V) along with his wife. His wife commited Sati when Mahindan died in prison. The 'Singala Nachiar' temple was built to commemorate that. Perumal says there is inscriptional evidence to this. This is kind of odds with what is being discussed here and was wondering whether there is actually evidence to this.

Hi we should ask kalki for he was the one who first mentions it. last para chapter 30 of book 5
says for some time it was called as singala nachiyar koil and later was corrupted to singaachiyar temple. he seems to have observed a dilapitaded temple and tanjore and recommends readers to go and visit it.
in fact when ps group went to tanjore we asked to be shown it but somehow it never materialised. venketesh
Theres a temple which is between Medical college road and Trichy road between Kundavai Nachiyar College and Stadium..called sengelachii or singala nachiyar koil but its a small temple not a kattralli or something
