just a few words on the uthiramerur trip. after a delightful breakfast at vandalur we crossed chingel pet. on the way we tried to cajole sps into stopping at kolavai lake so that we could climb the hills in the morning and the chola temple on top.
however sps was firm that we see the temple on the return. he was right . we would have missed some temple gurukals who had the keys if we had been late to uthiramerur.
thiru puli vanam but the trip to uthiramerur was indeed delayed because sriraman suggested seeing the thiru puli vanam temple . we took a detour and a whole some shiva temple with pond, 100 pillar mandapam designed as a charriot on the outskirts. the temple was fabulous. wonderful sculptures adorned the gajaprashta temple. on the outer wall were the remnants of some age old paintings. a couple of faces were visible and great
the speciality of the temple was that dakshinamurthy had a lion at the feet.My memories went to malapadi where dakshinamurthy sits on a bull
but overall there was some confusion in the temple over the ages. the vishnu durgai looked very much like mahalakshmi and the pillaiyar sat on an auvudiayar.
in one of the pillars is an engraving of a tiger clawing a linga. the gurukkal showed us a claw mark on the lingam too. its a legend of this temple.
the temple has been mentioned by appar peruman in another thevaram .so it counts as a vaipu thalam. but I am sure the holy trio must have visited this temple as it is in the cross roads of other devara sthalams. kanchi- thiru magaral- thiru idaicuram- thiru kalu kundram.
Yesterday my frind krishna , who is working for Dinakaran (Annmega malar, having circulation of 18 lacs with massive advt in SunTV gruop and FM), visited Thirupulivam and as per our request shortly there will be an article in dinakaran - Annmega malar- for Thirupulivanam featuring dhishinamurthy.
