Alwarkadiyaan Nambi
  • Dear Venkat
the discussion of Alwarkadiyans lingo came when someone suggested that they could do Iyengar accent so could play AN...

But as you rightly said most charectors spoke in a similar lingo...

    Coming back to Alwarkadiyan

He is in his late thirties or fourties during the storyline..
Kalki claims hes vaishnavaite but his cousin brother Esanasivapattar is Saivate...

Sembiyan madhevi gives this family the young girl nandhini so he is young in his late teens and brings her up as his own sister....he does get impressed by her ability to sing andals songs and things shes andal herself.....and would offer the same impact on people like Andal...

He is dissapointed when she leaves them to go with Pazhuvettarayar and Ravidaasan...

He tries to bring her back...and make her realise that shes doing wrong...

He doesnt have any carnal desires towards her ( nandhini once says to VD oh he wants me to marry him and raise kids to spread vaishnavism)

AN also uses his Kalamugar getup so very frequently and mostly rescues our freind VD

this charector is also present in most of the crucial moments of the story

He lead AK to veerapandiyans hideout as the asiriri
    he finds about Kadambur Sathiyalosanai
    Pallipadai sathiyalosanai
Hes there in Elam when they find about Mandakini
Hes there when when Mandakini sacrifices herself for Sundara
Hes there when nandhini confesses her sins to PP and stops Punguzhali from going after them to seek revenge

All the while being a faithful spy to Brahmarayar and Sembiyan madhevi
    thats kalkis greatness....

A charector who is not the main stay but is integral...

It is AN if I am not right who really puts the icing on the cake that is nandhini

He says Kundavai has the power to change hell to heaven however nandhini can make the man believe he is in heaven though he is in hell and rejoice in Hell

  • Dear all,

I feel some books are better left alone to the infinite imagination of the readers (except it is directed by some one like Peter Jackson of LOTR and King Kong). PS is exactly that kind of book, though it is interesting to discuss its visualization, this is just my view.
  • Hi sivaram

that sort of anti climax comes for many books.

you read a book and go to the theatre. and you are shocked

so I think its either this or that

  • Hi all,
Indian movie industry has not reached
that stage where it can handle a story
    like Ponniyin Selvan. Before ignoring
this fact out of patriotism ask yourself
if we can make a movie to the standards
of Jurassic Park, Harry Potter or
Lord of the Rings? If you honestly think
it is possible and we have the expertise
then we can picturize Ponniyin Selvan.
Otherwise just forget it. It is certainly
not worth watching a movie in which a
50 year old actor takes the role of
    Vandhya Thevan.

    Anand.
  • Dear Venkat,

When did Yuan suang visit Tamilnadu?

Is it during Sundara period ?

    regards / sps
  • Hi

thanks for the analysis of AN.

an omnipresent character created by Kalki?

can we equate him to a sutradhari of classic dramas?

he was religious. he was a spy. he who could fight with swords as
well more powerfully as with words.

he rides horses, elephant. he walks so swiftly to reach the scene of
    action.

In fact AN is the best character of PS more than VV. If Kalki uses
VV to prolong the storey he uses AN to create majority of the twists
and turns of the storey. How great? Any comparison in other
    classics, members?

Further, I feels Kalki defies times. Can any body claculate normal
time taken by people to move from place to palce like
Veeranarayanapuram to Kudanthi, Tanjavur to Nagai/Playarai etc., And
match it with the movements of characters between these places. Many
a times the characters reach in amazinly short time. Memebers,
Please come with examaples. It will add another dimension to Kalki's
    authorship.
  • Hi Sps

Huen Tsang came to india much earlier- he's a 7th Century Chinese
    traveller to India.
is he not a charecter in ss?????

some of his reports are so accurate that in early 20th century ruins
of buddhist stupas were discovered using them as a guide.

his skull was reportedly brought by dalai lama when he went into exile
    and now resides in india.
