I am new to this group and would like to seek advice. I am planning to take my 12 year old daughter to chennai for 3 weeks during summer (July 22rd to August 14th) from the USA. She dances Bharathanatyam very well and has read Ponniyin Selvan completely. I want to take her to Tanjore teample. I would like to meet someone scholarly re: Tamil history, PS and the temple to basically act as our tour guide for the day. I want her to meet someone who can infuse her with enthusiasm re: our great tamil culture. Naturally, I am willing to compensate for their consultancy/time. Can you all recommend a suitable person that I can approach. I was also told that you should get special permission to see some areas of the temple. Any advice re: how I can get permission is also appreciated. Thanks!
I suggest our group member Mr.Seetharaman in Kumbakonam.
He is the best person to handle these kind of activities. He helped us a lot in travel arrangements for our 'Mudhal Yaathirai (Visiting places featured in PS)' and our all other monthly research trips in thanjavur area till last month.
You can contact him at seetharaman12 at gmail dot com.
I fully appreciate your interests in forwarding the cultural values of our land to the next generation.
Let us think about what you have proposed. One of the prerequesites for us to arrange something is that you need to see if you can influence your friends and family members to join this trip so that we have a meaningful populace to plan for
If the group is too small (one or two members) then it pretty much becomes personal trip with max one guide as Akila has suggested.
when in chennai surely meet sundar bharadwaj ( sps) . I guess there is no other person who can create in your daughter a total and permanent sense of pride in her native culture. his love for the cholas and the book ps is his driving force. venketesh
I want to thank all of you for your suggestions and extremely gratified re: the offer to spend time with us. I will contact when we land in Chennai and will take you up on your offer, your time permitting, of course! Also, meeting your daughter might be fun for Arthi. Thanks!
