I thought of the following syllabus for the inscription reading course:-
[1] Phoenician scripts and Linear A, B scripts - an introduction.
[2] Tamil and Asokan Brahmi scripts.
[3] Pallava scripts.
[4] Pandian scripts ( vattaleuthu .)
[5] Later Chola scripts.
I guess each topic can be covered in about 2 classes over a week end. It should be interactive with real classic examples - for example, the famous Ravidasan & co inscription etc., and practical exercises. We can also give handouts to participants.
These are the action items to be done:
[1] Agree on the syllabus [2] Find tutors ( ASI people can help us ) [3] Find a place to teach ( some school / college can spare us space ) [4] Complete enrollments [5] Conduct the training
I can think of issuing a participancy certificate to the participants that are enrolled. Certificates can be given by PSVP.
I'm not for collecting money from the participants, excepting to meet the logistics. Donors are the prime source and most welcome!
We can have some special invities such as Iravatham Mahadeven for the Asokan / Tamil Brahmi stuff.
On the last day, accounts will be submitted to all participants.
We can enroll interested students as well by issuing a press release.
If people are interested in Online lessons, i dont mind becoming the webmaster for this. Will find someplace to host it and if people can send the lessons, I can put those up etc. My little bit of help to the good work you all are doing.
Dear Arun Well done well volunteered you may want to liase with Prof Swaminathan to see if hes interested as he has an open access ppt collection on evolution of script from sumerian, egyptian, chineses indus scripts as well Like ramnath said Lavanyas Kalvettu pattikalaam vaanga is a good start
hi friends, he has given a meaningful programme for the traing programme for inscriptions reading.but response is not satisfactory. at that time i think members were busy.i request all our members to revive our enthusiasm. we are lacking behind in three areas. for anything the registration of ponniyinselvan peravai is important.for that bye laws are required. before preparing bye laws we have to open a bank account. we should have letter pad. so manythings we have to take care before registration. unless we register our peravai we cannot proceed in our aims secondly we can plan about syllabus and how to implement our traing programmes thirdly we have to start to bring back the sleeping documents from karnataka. i request our respectable sps to arrange special meeting during first week.i can attend that meeting if it is fixed in first week. during first week atleast we try to prepare one action plan for thses three things so that we can proceed without further delay. i request venkateswaran to bring his propsal when he comes for the meeting. swetha isnot available till 4th june.i request our sps and venkat to find out a common place not beach this time. i request our respectable sps to look intothis matter
