Varuven Varuven Endru....
  • I vividly remember the National Channel program you guys are talking
    about -
most probably because it was all Kalki compositions! I think it was
    to
    commomorate his anniversary or something.
I don't exactly remember the tune for "Alaikadalum" song - but
    another song
came out extremely well and is still lingering in my memory. Since
    the very
first time I heard this song, I keep remembering the tune time and
    again -
surprisingly, none of you guys have mentioned this song!
The song was "Varuven Varuven endru - veelin mel.." which manimekalai
    sings
in front of Karikalakn and Vandhiyathevan.
The mood of the song itself is very lovely - Manimekalai trying to
    express
her deep love to V.Devan via her song and Yazh in an island...the
    climate
is wonderful, because rain is going to come very soon. Wind is
    blowing in
high speeds - but none of them seem to have bothered. All have lost
themselves in the song...The choice of words which Kalki used
    deserves
special mention - it was his own composition. He uses the tradition
    of
Vettuva pen longing for Lord Muruga as the theme - but in reality, it
    is
actually an expresion of Manimekalaki's subtle feelings....
I think the music was by TR Papa. He bought out this mood very well
    with
his tune - and the singer was Sasireka I believe.
    Lovely song!

  • Dear all...

That was a great song, wasn't it? Your narration was beautiful.

But G...you've got your facts a bit mixed up, I think. That song is
'maravEn, maravEn enru vElin mEl aanaiyitta...' -and that song appears in
Sivagaamiyin sabadham- episode 14('Vaazhi nee mayilE'), in 3rd paagam.
Sivagami dances and sings in front of Mahendra Pallava and Pulikesi.(Kalki
himself set this song in Anandha bhairavi)

The Manimegalai song is 'Iniya punal aruvi thavazh'- she sings that on the
Eri karai. Our Iyappan has written a poem about Manimegalai-(and I did the
illustration:-)-its in the Files section. He's written about Poonghuzhali
    too.
  • Really sorry.
The themes of these songs are so singular that I got confused. Thanks
    pavitra.
But the song which I heard in National channel was certainly
Sivagamiyin sabadham song - not that of Manimekalai's.
  • was it Sasirekha or T.K.Kala?
