Historic pazhuvettaraiyars are being dealt with in great detail in the PAZHUVOOR series by Dr.Kalaikkovan in our sister website www.varalaaru.com - it will be a delight for you shankar !
By the way Kumaran kandan and Kandan maravan is the ans to your question - if I remember correct. No kalanthaka I believe :-)
> periya pv talks to chinna pv and calls him thambi kaalaanthaka.
There was literally no research done on Pazhuvettaraiyar clan in Kalki's time. He just managed with what was available.
Pazhuvoor pudhaiyalgal has the distinction of being the first indepth research on this clan and it won the tamilnadu govt prize for the same. Here the pazhuvettaraiyar clan and family tree is drawn to possible approximation
I am sure nobody would have bothered about sitrasar clans like the pazhuvettaraiyar and the sambuvarayar and the kodumbalur clan except for kalki's imagination which gave them a new lease of life. something must have triggered off his choice of name.
a temple near manal medu where he studied has an amman called poongkuzhali. there is an inscription of a person called kandar suriyan sambuvarayan in the raja gopuram of thiruvakkarai. perhaps it gave kalki the name of kanda maaran.
Dear Gokul, perhaps sambuvarayars did not live during the times of cholas but if they had, they have certainly outlived them. I was reading about two foreign forts in the coramandel coast. sadras( once could have been a twin city of madras) near present day kalpakkam
and al ambhra - an arab turned french fort near kadapakkam on ecr. both these forts have witnessed great naval battles in 18th century ,which determined why we speak english in chennai( and india) and not french.but the common thread is both these have been sambuvarayar ports in the past.
talking about survival , so have the mutharayars whom the cholas drove out of tanjore.they have emerged as a caste. but where are the cholas?? i ask myself.
there is a paadal petra sthalam called thiru vaal koli puthur between mayavaram and manalmedu.( a temple with a legend of arjuna's sword).very close to kalkis child hood residence
sambandar and sundarar have sung about this place
the amman's name is bramhakunthalaambaal in sanskrit and vandamar poongkuzhali in tamil.
