Great Ideas. I would actually dearly love to come out with an illustrated book on "Vanthiyathevan's Journey" or something like that. Visiting all the places on the routes he took, photos of all the major temples/historical features along the route etc. That would be neat what?
Another thing I thought of: to have some celebreties such as Kamal Hassan and R.S. Manohar ( the drama specialist ) enrolled as our team members ( though they may not have time for that, but still can post messages occationally ) because of their interest in PS.
Dear VK I personally dont favoutr that idea Infact we tried with Madan and no response.... All the inspired young and old alike are working towards something mgnificent....I personally feel the media stars will only highjack this and not actually contribute significantly...Kamal has been talking about PS movie from the time i was in school...
May be we can invite them to the inaguration of PSVP or Sadaya Vizha.....If they are genuinely interested anybody is welcome but lets not seek big names just for publicity we have achieved a great deal on our own right and rightly so
design and host a spectacular web page for RajaRajeshwaram. My searches on GOOGLE for the Big Temple bring our PATHETIC pages. Ofcourse , except those on varalaaru.com - which in my view is more of a magazine than a information page.
It is do-able. Given the ware-house of information that people here are , i really suppose this would be a significant step.
HECK ! I cant find a proper Big Temple WALLPAPER ! Come to think of it !
Eh ? ;) I have a proper excuse , 't' and 'r' are nearby. :-)
Besides , true , there is no single comprehensive website/page on the Big Temple.Even here. What folks write in Varalaaru is great , but they do fall short of being a one-stop comprehensive source of information about the temple - in both English and Tamil.
I understand that people could be busy and that is exactly where folks like me can chip in.Just like the legendary squirrel.
Ram Its every ones dream the only difference we can make that happen as we have accomplished with Varalaru...In fact it easier because you are just concentrating on one structure as oopposed to on going research and evolution.. i dont deny there are so many things that are evolving even in Big Temple...like the cannon balls in keralanthagan gopuram...
The point is we have the experts who can accomplish it So I think it is worth persueing
There is no debate on the worthiness of the research and documentation of he rajarajisaram. I was just trying today, that temple is real real huge and one's lifetime is not enough to do a complete research. However, we should start pooling in with smaller efforts from a larger chunk of people and eventually one day we will be able to appreciate the greatness of that monument completely at one place.
I am not a computer expert , but can really do a mules job. Donkey No #1 reporting for duty. ;-)
On a serious note....
You have echoed my sentiments.Varalaaru's focus is on the entire Tamil/South Indian history. We need something specific for RajaRajeshwaram.
The site could begin with a brief introduction to Cholas and RRC. Then the temple itself , virtual tour and other things you have pointed out like festivals etc.
I have a friend who is a excellent web developer besides i can always chip in too.I do not suppose funds are going to be a hinderance of any sort.I volunteer to buy out a domain name and some space.
We could go on to do all Chola temples in the long term , but for now we shall have to stick to Rajarajeshwaram.
Indians in general have been poor in recording history.Raja Raja defied that with his meikirtis and inscriptions. His story must be told on the internet.
So are there any takers for my idea ? i.e. : a neat site for the big temple with exhaustive details about the temple.
The content and the manner of presenting it are yet to be decided. I find it rather boring to see the Taj associated with India always.
The idea is to put the message across , 'Look we have better things to show you '
Another fascinating detail about RRC is that he was the one among the very very few ancient Indians to have 'recorded' history.
Therefore , i think it is our duty to put the story of RRC 'on record'.
Besides - I love the Big Temple, although i am yet to visit it in person.THAT temple is a part of our identity. It deserves to be given some unique space.
Folks who are eager to chip in the project are welcome to email me at amarnathgovindarajan AT yahoo dot com.

I TOTALLY AGREE The idea is to put the message across , 'Look we have better things to show you '
