burmese coast had aweak govt in 1000AD
  • friends,
the burma coast, had a weak polity from 850-1350. it was that period cholans were active in bay of bengal. the coastal state is called the rakhas (rakhine state)anglicised as arakan state. it had a dynasty called DAMRO.it was not very strong and had to be some what sub-ordinate to the inland BAGAN KINGDOM and the maritime cholan kingdom. this was perhaps the period the cholans had influence in burmese coast.

so it is not wrong to say that the cholan in 1000-1100 AD had complete control of the bay of bengal sea board. there is ample evidence for the cholans presence in peninsular malaya, sumatran coast and the java island. so the cholans maritime cartography as depicted in the wikipedia may be correct and not an exaggeration.
