Dear members, I am enclosing a copy of the aritcle on maruthu pandiyar article published in kalaimagal latest issue i.e. March 2009. I request the members to go through and give valuable suggestions
MARUTHU - Brothers - especially the Bigger (elder) one - is considered UNIQUE..
I still recall a mention ::
He threw a VALIYERI (Kind of Crfesent-Disc ) from Mennakshi temple across Theppakkulam which hit a target on the opposite bank - right on dot... (and reached him back too ?? )
Very Great personality ..
Like the Lions - the Brothers protected Kalayarkoil - Thirupathur area !!
Our Tamils' contribution to Freedom movement has NOT been properly brought out at National level in Freedom struggle History .
With passpost hiccups for Rahul Mahajan re his Honeymoon - I was just thinking of you - Rahul and here you are !
I heard this Marudhu episode in a SPEECH in one of their Forum's annual meets in Chennai - last year. I
I too recall - it did not return..
Also I recall it scaled the total height of Gopuram !!
To believe these - one should see the KAVASAMs (armour) they used - made of steel-strings - which now kept in Exhibition in Pudukottai museum.. 4 - 5 of us cant even lift them - leave along wearing !! and stunning height too !
so awaiting to hear more interesting details from you too.. !!
Friends,
Rahul Dhinakar - recently got wedded - is CEO of his Software Company and sometime back interviewed Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Head of TVS Gp for CNN-IBN ..which was much discussed as motivating interview for upcoming Youths ..
some one tossed in a lighter-note :: THAT WAS A GOOD INTERVIEW ... ( in Actor Raghuvaran's tone (?) in Mudhalvan tamil movie )..
Talking about armours and weapons those yester year heros used...I am reminded of Savai Raja Mann Singhs sword and shield in Jaipur Museum. The guide said, the sword weighs 5kgs and the shield 6kgs. Apart from this, his armour, helmet and other stuff.
Was wondering, how a person can lift a 5kg sword and fight...and the size....10 people of my size can fit into his dress :)
So huge......
and we are talking about people of just a few centuries back....
Dear Mr.SPS; I did see this armor in Pudukottai sometime back as a really close friend lives there. It was awesome. Im quite sure the Valai-eri does not return. Maybe Mr.Jaybee can confirm this as im sure he has an article about this and also held a valai-eri in his hand!!!
Mr.SPS, my company is NOT a software company its a Mechanical Engineering company building machines for companies in India and abroad. Thanks for the itnro though.
I agree with you his sword and dress are ginormous (something which I picked from my 5 year old apparently gigantic and enormous!)
The swords might have been longer to aid battle from horse and camel
The dress we see is two dimentional a neatly pressed cotton garb might become a little smaller if a man is inside it...I still agree it is large...
