Temples in and around Thirunelveli
Very nice work. Now I am motivated to find the time to visit all the temples. Reminded me of the trip a few years ago to Madurai, Thirunelveli and the nava thirupathis. Subramanian

"Tholkappiam preceded Rig Veda"

Why Pandyas lost to Kafur. (technology)
There is a book with the same title "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond that deals with exactly these kinds of questions in more depth. I suppose that the documentary came later as a companion to the book. If you liked the documentar…

I think the shadow not falling on the ground has evolved. If I remember correctly, the claim was that the shadow does not fall outside the base when the sun is at the pinnacle (noon) on all 365 days. This is likely to be true (but needs to be veri…

Two articles on the history of the Pallavas
Dear Shri Shashwath: Excellent pictures of the backwaters at Ennore and the sandbars. I could not believe that such a spot existed near Chennai. It will be interesting to see what the scenery looks today. Subramanian

Sangam Literature in Comic book format
Very nicely done. No that I got the gist of the poetry, I would like to understand the meanings of individual words/phrases. Can you please include that in your blog? The only part I understood was "கிள்ளை வளை வாய்க் கொண்ட வேப்ப ஒண் பழம்"…

Raja Raja's resting place : Pallippadai
I will defer to the learned folks on the PSVP, but my understanding is that it represents the temple that is built at the place where an individual's body is buried (not sure if it also applicable when the body is cremated). Subramanian

Balarama worship
There is a belief that Balarama is the avatar of Adisesha (the serpent that serves as the bed of Mahavishnu). Thus, if one accepts this interpretation, there is no dissonance between Balarama and Naga; both are the same. Subramanian

Name one tamilian, from the past, you would love to meet. (Summary 1)
I would like to meet any of the great “kadai 7 vallalgal”. (Pari, Adhiyaman, Thirumudikkari, Ai Andiran etc). If I can meet any one on the list, I would like to hear his life story in his own words and what he thought he should be remembered for.

Kathy: I see your view point and I totally agree with you. In my mind, 'idol' symbolizes something that is lifeless/powerless whereas the term "murthy" is something that has divinity residing in it. This divinity is incorporated…

I agree that any one-sided system is gender oppression. Why were the males divested of their right to wear metti ? As a male, I demand the right to wear metti (and other ornaments)! I will not tolerate this oppression of males by the society! :)
