pallipadai - A place where a hero of war is worshiped after his death in that war. Naduharkoil - A place where a hero of war (after his death in the war), along with other gods/goddess are worshiped.
I think Pallipadai is the place where a war hero is worshipped after his death inthe war. I think one may say is is simillar to the modern day samadhi. it is more like a monument build in memory of the war hero.
pallipadai is a memorial place/building (ninaivu mandapam) it cannot be a place for worship. we can see the detailed xplanation in PS-part 1. Where Alwarkadian meets Ravidasan and his gang. Even today we have war memorials across the country. My opinion is it should be ninaivu mandapam for any king/war than for worship place. Worshiping a leader/king is a recent pahutharivu developement. niranjan

A 'pallipadai' is, quite simply, a monument dedicated to warriors, kings, and other VIPs after their death- to honour their achievements. A temple is generally built at the site where the warrior/king's remains have been buried. (Usually, the body is cremated and the ashes are placed underground-interred). The temple is meant to induce people to remember the person in whose honour the paLLipadai was built.
(Refer photo - Panchavan Maadhevi Pallipadai, built by Rajendra ChoLa. PM was only his stepmother, but his devotion to her far exceeded what he felt for his own mother. Legend says that she took herbs to prevent child-birth- so that no competition would arise to Rajendra regarding the succession.)
Another reference is the Thirupurambiyam Pallipadai, appearing in PS itself several times- dedicated to the Ganga king Prithvipathi.
Mr. Sundar Bharadwaj mentioned something- just an aasumption- that Raja raja Chola 'may' have been interred in Thiruvalanchuzhi.
No laughing and pointing at all- we're here to share knowledge, amigo.:-))
