N A M E S - Chozha way :: Krishnan Iraman .. (1)
  • Dear sps

    what an honour
    sembian madevi's malapaadi
    uthama solans malapaadi
    and now you call it
    our venkatesh's malapaadi

but what a temple. i was there on 16th.
    spent the sayarakshai time there.
though i go there once a month i never get tired

the other temple that recharges me is thirukadaiyur( i am going there
    tomorow- pournami)
there are some connections between the 2 temples

some how both have a second goddess called balambikai
even the thevarams are so closely resembling

and by the way somebody told me a pre historic burial urn was
discovered close to the temple at thirukadaiyur.
    i should visit it tomorrow
  • > our venkatesh's malapaadi

There is a rare uoorthuvajanu & Dandapaksha karana sculpture in
mazhapaadi temple - I had written about it in PS group - it was
discoverdd by Dr.kalaikkovan. refer a detailed article in varalaaru.com
    one of the previous issues
  • Hi Venkatesh,

Is the same balambika that kalki refers in PS , a good piece of humour through Adita karikalan, connecting paluvetairyar & Nadhini. with the incident of sundarar refusing to sing on virthambal & viruthikeeswarar ..
  • Hai meena
the amman at viruthachalam( a nadu naadu sthalam ) is also balaambikai
i think the reference was to that

    know what?
in viruthachalam the pilgrim standing before the idol is supposed to
get a vision of his past births

a temple with thirupani by sembiyan mathevi

many have done tirupani for this temple including the british
collector of south arcot hyatt.( there is a choultry in his name
    still)
  • dear Meena
thiru muthu kundram ( vridachalam)means old
this hill was formed before and vanished before the rest
the rock bed below the temple is given as evidence.
however the name old is added as prefix to the god and amman
sundarar refuses to sing here because he is irritated by the name.
why sing about an old man?
so another idol- balambika is installed and sundarar sings

    what does he sing?
he asks for gold for his dancer wife
then he drops the gold in the mani muthar here and picks it up in
    thiruvarur temple tank- kamalalayam.

(so tamils first thought of speed transfer of funds)

co incidentally balaambika is the name of the second amman in
malapaaadi and thirukadaiyur( perhaps they meant junior amman)
  • Balambikai is main amman in Thillaisthaanam (Thiru nei thaanam - near
    Thiruvaiyaru)
Here there is no junior amman concept.
  • I remember seeing two ambaal's in Karur temple.... i do not remeber
the names now.... is similar junior senior ambaal concept there in
    pasupatheesarar temple???

aana enakku therinju moolavare niraiya irukkira koil rendu ... onnu
is Tiruvotriyur.... lot of names for sivan..... putridamkondaar,
    thyagesar, aadipureeswarar etc etc....

second one is our Kandhaswami koil ..... appappa eththanai
moolavar... idhula koothu enanna andha koilukulla periya kulam vera
irukku... velile irundhu paatha avvalavu periya kulathai andha koil
    thannulle adakkindu summaa irukkaradhu theriyaadhu...ellaam
moolavaroda magimai... five thozhilayum panra avan onnum
    theriyadhavan maadhiri irukkaan......

if at all , third one might be our Aarupadai veedu at Besant
    Nagar...

ashta lakshmi koil cannot be counted in this as the main thaayaar is
none other than our Karunaikadal Mahalakshmi.... koodave ottikinu
    namma perumal....

"..vanasa maamiyaar aada nediya maamanaar aada mayilum aadi nee aadi
    varavenum....."
  • Thanks for the info. Sundarar is irritated may be because he might have remembered the way God Siva came there in the guise of an old Brahmin at his wedding ..J
