There was a thread regarding our next tour and tentatively it was fixed for May2005. Yes indeed we need to go for a grand tour to learn our history. But I have a suggestion. Why dont we make short trips in the mean time. I am not sure how many of us are in Chennai? But people belonging to one locality can make a half day or one day trip to temples and historical places nearby. There are hundreds of historical temples around chennai itself. So I think it will be fruitful for the new comers like me to visit and get an intial outlook on the historical aspect. Say for ex. the temple in Madambakkam near Selayur, Temple near Poonamalli, etc. Senior members can take us and explain the temple architecture etc. We can even start in the morning and return by evening. It can be a one full day or just half day trips.
This is my suggestion and like to know your views. Can we make it?
This is very good suggestion. We have lot of places around Chennai. In two hours journey we can reach places as far as100 kms away which we can make in day's time. I am in Chennai and I can join on Sundays.
Even fomous places like Mahabalipuram and Sadras will give for people like me lot of historical insight with the company of learned and knowlegable scholers.
I personally feel a trial group tour can be arranged in near future and let us enjoy the time with people of same wavelength.
> Even fomous places like Mahabalipuram and Sadras > will give for people like me lot of historical > insight with the company of learned and knowlegable > scholers.
I will be able to join you all if this can be arranged in Dec. I'm visiting India after 6 years and would love to commune with like-minded folks. I prefer the day trip idea, can't afford to spare more than a day from my measly two week vacation.
I grew up in Sadhurangapattinam aka Sadras, lived in the village as well as the township. Although I have visited the old Dutch fort and the ruins of temples around the village, I'm not familiar with their history. This trip should be a fun learning experience.
