i went through this area's history. it is called arakan province. the original term is rakhasa province. i do not know whether the term is related to rakshasa. the arakan provonce is a budhhist province and is burmese speaking only. but has a different cultural political history. during the imperial cholas regime this province could have been in touch with cholans. but details are not available. if this province has been hostile to cholans, then it is not correct for the historical map makers to include the burmese coast as are of cholan influence ( especially during the RJC regime).
but there are ample evidence to show that there were cordiality between the THAI coast and the cholan empire. relationship with SRIVIJAYAN empire is well known. gandhi
