We are not talking contemporary versions. There are many descriptions of the Dancing form in silpa texts....There is reference to the Lord's *Bhujangatrasita *when he notices Karkotaka in his feet. Muyalakan is said to hold a snake as well. Of the many forms of shiva inside the dancing bracket - there is reference to him holding a snake in his hand. Snake ornaments - to adorn his makuta, even as arm bands but as far as i see there is no reference to the snake ornament as a necklace..the reference is to a rudraksha mala.
It would be interesting to study early ( say pre 11th C CE) bronzes and sculptures - and look if there is snake around his neck.
