    Temple built by Parantaga Chola and the Vimanam in stone by Amabalavanan Paluvur Nakkan in Uthama period.

    This temple has many beautiful panels and Our Gokul has written about the Narasimha pannel. ( link given below)

    Excellent renovation by our member Mr Tamilselvan and his uzhavarappani group. He had done his best within the constraints of a group. The temple is maintained by a local ( No
    Gurukkal) person /his son, an young boy do daily naivedyams. This person is running a grosery shop and has the keys.

    Gurukkal comes once in a week.

    Our Siva also gets somebody for his work like this gentleman Mr Madhiyazhagan, Gopurappatti Iengar, Kaveripakkam Santakumar etc. He is also fighting to save the temple for next generation and to protect history.

    Coming to Ramayanam,

    Among the panels the vali sugreeva fight is depicted in one panel and Rama aiming him is shown in the next panel. Rama panel is kept aside and hidden from the view.

    Excellent positioning of panels.

    Tara shown in the fight panel. Lakshmana and Hanuman with his usual humility shown in the Rama panel.

    Sita with a Rakshasi shown in another Panel. Vali Ravana panel is also available.

    ARE 1928 -29, No 177, This inscription recorded in the south wall speaks about the gift of residential land during the 22nd RY ( 929 AD) of Madurai Konda Kopparakesari Parantaga I. Since the inscription is on the wall, it is assumed that the temple was constructed during Parantaga period.

    Some books say that the temple was built by Ambalavan Paluvur Nakkan alias
    Vikramasola-Maharajanof Kuvalalam during Uthama period. Some say he built only the Vimana in stone. He also made a Koothadum Peruman and Uma Bhattaragi images. That Natraja was stolen some years back.

    Govindaputtur, Udayarpalayam Taluk, Trichinopoly District.
    On the south wall of the central shrine, Gangajatadhara temple.
    This is an inscription of Rajaraja I, the details of the date given here viz. 3rd year, Tula, Monday, Navami Tiruvonam, corresponding to 3rd October, A.D. 987. It records an agreement (Ottolai) given by the assembly (Perunguri – Perumakkal) of Periya Sri Vanavanmahadevi-chaturvedimangalam, in consideration of a lump sum of 200 kalanju, to pay all the taxes due on a veli and quarter of land endowed for worship to the temple at Vijayamangalam by Ambalavan Paluvur Nakkan alias Vikramasola-Maharajanof Kuvalalam, a nobleman of Mummudi-Choladeva, who had also built the Srivimana of the god with stone. The assembly is stated to have met in full strength for this transaction in front of the temple of Vinaiyabharanavinnagar-Emberuman in the centre of
    the village, after due announcement of its sitting by beat of drum and blowing of trumpet. The donor has figured as an important personage in the inscriptions of Uttama-Chola.
    Ambalavan Paluvurnakkan was an officer of great influence under RRC. He figures in six inscriptions included in the present series which are ascribable to his predecessor Uttama-Chola. Like his two records of the previous volume these are also from Govindaputtur in the Tiruchirappalli district. A bi-lingual inscription in Sanskrit and Tamil of the 14th year of the king (No. 357) states that he hailed from Kuvalalam (Kolar), that he was nobleman of the king’s council, and had been conferred the title Vikramachola-Maharaja after the surname of his overlord who was greatly pleased with his valour. He built of
    stone the srivimanam of the temple. In an inscription of the king’s 10th year (No. 272) he is stated to have made a gift of sheep for a perpetual lamp in the temple in the company of another donor Andanattu Malavar who presented twice that number. The latter is evidently the same as Senni Nambiyar of No. 237 already noticed. Ambalavan’s two wives Aparayitan Seyyavaymani (No. 333) and Singapanman Kanchi Akkan (No. 334) also made donations to the same temple.

    Some more interesting info:
    The village was refered as Periya Vanavanmadevi Chthurvedimangalam in Uthama period and the temple as Sri Vijayamangalathu Mahadevar.
    One Manapparavaisami alia Kundranattu Kandapperundinai who was the agent of Paluvettarayan Maravan Kandanar ( nammaPeriya Pazhuvettarayar?)  donated some sheeps.
    Another donor was Chekkilan Arayan Sankaranarayanan alias Chola Muttarayan of Kavanur in Paluvur Kottam. So the name Sankaranarayanan existed in 982 itself. (Oru Pazhuvetarayar pere Sankaranarayanan than)

    An agreement was executed with 2 Sivabrahmanas for conducting rituals and offering on two ayana Sankarantis, two vishus ( ie Chithirai and Aippasi)  and on Vaikasi Visakam.
    Interestingly the name of 2 siva brahmans are

    1. Kasyapa Korran Singa Bhattan
    2. Bhardwaja Korran Thiruvaranga Bhattan.
    ie both siva brahmans had a vishnu name. No division those days.
