I have personally spoken to Adayar Institute officials (044-24911526) and they
stated that -


(a) They are indeed offering a medicine called "Imtinef Mercilet"
(b) Efficacy of the medicine depends on the type of cancer - blood cancer
itself is a very wide term and there are many, many sub-types. Even in cases
where Imtinef Mercilet is considered appropriate, cure is not assured. (Without
getting too technical, I may safely say that the meaning of "cure" itself is the
subject of much debate among researchers and the medical fraternity)
(c) The message being circulated is only partly true and before rushing to
any conclusions, patients are advised to undergo proper evaluation at the
Institute by getting themselves admitted there
(d) Finally, the medicine is NOT repeat NOT free (except in a few cases of
very poor people)

I also found that, in its generic form (that is to say, under other brand
names), the medicine is offered in many other hospitals all over the world.


It is therefore better to treat the message now circulated with some
circumspection. Caveat Emptor! Imtinef Mercilet is NOT a miracle cure. It is
one of the ways of treating certain types of blood cancer.


Why did I take trouble to write so much? Without going into personal details, I
may state that my wife herself is a cancer patient (has been for over 5 years)
and both of us have done (and continue to do) a good deal of study of cancer,
its treatment and management. The two of us are also personal (not medical)
counsellors to three other cancer patients. I say this not to boast but
because, as my wife is a recovered cancer patient (fingers crossed), we have a
duty to pass on our experience to others.


It is possible to combat cancer (I believe my wife is one of the lakhs of
examples) but not by quick fixes.
