THANJAVUR: The State government will celebrate the 1,000 {+t} {+h} year of construction of Big Temple built by King Rajaraja Cholan here in a grand manner said Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi here on Tuesday.
He said that the grand anicut built by Karikala Cholan and the Big Temple built by Rajaraja Cholan were two architectural marvels.
“We have to salute Rajaraja Cholan who had built such a big temple. I always wondered at the height of the vimana and other aspects of the temple. I am very happy to announce at Thanjavur that the State government will celebrate the millennium of the temple. The date, venue and mode of celebrations will be announced later,” he said.
The scholars from all over the world, who participated in the World Classical Tamil Conference requested him to celebrate the occasion in a grand and befitting manner, Mr. Karunanidhi pointed out.
