this is dealt in depth in the conference in singapore. i have bought the publication. there are many versions of this read in the sung dynasty anals. crux is cholas were first introduced as sub of srivijaya- then the kadaram campaign which incidentally finds no ref in sung anals. then for a brief period they were elevated to highest rank - something to do with the type of invite they recieve. but this was reveresed in a very short span n again they r shown as sub ord of srivijay. extact dates n ref will submit shortly.
