Deepavali passions
  • Deepavali greetings to you all.

Deepavali passions have changed with the fast paced life style of ours.

For those whoyearn forsplendors, America is a far cry in meetingthe pangs ofDeepaval (they better cling on to their childhood memories of a good time in the not too distant past).

The best place in the world for Deepavali is India ,so I thought and called mychildhood friendon the Deepavali day.

Please read on this Tamil poem, and don't hate me if you don't like it...

Withvery best wishes fora happy, fun filled Deepavali,

    TMS

  • Hi
Incidentally i watched the movie aananda tandavam a take off from sujatha's pirivom santhipom which focusses a lot on life of nris in america.
also reading JILL THE RECKLESS by pg wodehouse, about an girl who goes to usa from england perhaps in the twenties. PG talks about the commercialism in the US even then.

  • Dear VJ-

It will be my great pleasure if you could present the following version corrected for a few typos. Thanks very much for your thoughtful offer.
  • Yes, Venketesh, it is a comic novel with a great message. I love PGW's dry sense of humor. Sujatha's Pirivom, Santhippom is a good reference to the subject.

  • Dear Dayanandan-

Thanks for pointing out the error which I corrected. The Google transliteration page could trip you unless great alacrity is exercised. I am glad that you enjoyed the poem.

I love PGW's dry sense of humor.

i could find a lot of repetitions from "damsel in distress"

Sujatha's Pirivom, Santhippom is a good reference to the subject.

aananda tandavam was one of the diwali movies on tv.
i chaned on it while channel surfing and ended up watching the movie.
i think sujatha upgraded the script for today's times just before he died

my favorite PGW books were those
    featuring PSmith, with
    the silent P.

  • Hi kathie
so you are a PGW fan too.

its so telling on is capacities when a person from india like me can totally visulise his prewar colonial and feudal england. infact visualise it so well that we can laugh our heads off.

a man to whom humor was like a breath.
    one instance
He was taken prisoner by the Germans in 1940 and interned by them for a year, in Upper Silesia (now in Poland). He is recorded as saying, "If this is Upper Silesia, one wonders what Lower Silesia must be like..."

please read damsel in distress if you havent. his very best.
