I understand that an archaeological exploration was recently carried out at Nagappattinam by Tamil univ. Dr Jeyakumar, whom I know, has lead the exploration. I'm yet to speak to him.
Around 7 layers - right from sangam period to europian period - have been discovered in the buddha vihara complex area opp present bustand. This is the very first time in tamilnadu that 7 layers covering 2000 years have been made available in the same place. Among chinese porcelain and earthware, they have also found a coin of Rajaraja-I.
