    Hi all..

    I am Ravindran ...i am posting Vandiyathevan statue , present in chennai
    anna salai fly over...



    [Horse Rider Statue,Anna Flyover,Chennai by Velachery Balu.]



    This statue was installed some time in 70's in remembrance of abolition
    of Horse Racing in Chennai.

    There were reports that statue of the man is made with the features of
    Vandhiya Thevan of Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan.

    Two identical statues are installed on both sides of Anna Flyover. This
    is one facing Uthmar Gandhi Salai (i.e.Nungambakkam High Road)

    It's another matter Horse Racing has come back to stay in Chennai ....

    I saw this statue recently and my dad told me it was installed, as Ravindran
    said, to celebrate the abolition of horse racing. But is it VD? And whats
    the connection?

    dear Rahul,

    your dad is right ,, it was installed by Kalaignar during his first stint.

    his love for Thanjai - PS - RRC (and thus Vandhiyathevan) is well known,

    It is (mis)interpretation.

       This statue was installed by tamilnadu government to celebrate the abolition of horse racing in chennai. This statue is for Vandiyathevan only No doubt in that...
     
       Another one statue also in the same road at other end...

     Vandiadevan is kudiraip priyar. In one of episole of ponniyin selvan, he put ladam for his horse. But he never stop the hrose, as in the statue. Can any body explain how he could be linked with mount road horse statue?

    actually the kadambur soldiers stop his horse like this once, but then he was on the horse back

    does an incident happen after the velakarapadai soldiers frightent he horse?
