  • Good luck and enjoy.

An organized trip from the group after quite a long time, with lot of
people. The last few trips were almost private trips, like just 5
    members going in one car...

I am going to really miss this. I will try to call SPS or Chandra
sometime during the trip, so that I can say atleast a 'Hi' to all..

Already my mouth is watering thinking about 'Arusuvai' pongal and
    vadai.. :(
  • SPS Sir,

I have already sent the Van number detail to all by SMS.
  • Hi

  • Satish,

First for you. The attachment is exclusively for you. (Unga kaadhula pugai theriyudhu)

    All,

The trip was really excellent. Got a lot of insights in to the wonders of Mamallapuram. But as aptly said by Prof. Swaminathan, we had not even completed 40% of Mallai in this trip. So there should be a sequel to this in the near future.

Prof. Swaminathan's guidance and impressive way of presenting the works, added more flair to the entire day. Believe me, in the morning session, we were spell bound for 3 hrs when he took us around starting from the mini elephant bas to Trimurthy Caves, to Durga Cave, to Koneri Mandapam, the Varaha Cave, Ganesa Ratham, the Citadel on the top, Ramanuja Mandapam (a complete Misnomer) and Dharmaraja Mandapam.

Though considered as a protected site, the negligence that we saw yesterday, on the preservation of important inscriptions in the Ramanuja Mandapam and Dharmaraja Mandapam are really heart-breaking.

One question, very aptly asked by Prof. Swaminathan at the end of the day is, "WHAT IS THE STEP FORWARD AFTER THIS INDUCTION". We need to do some thing about all these and I plan to discuss more on this in the upcoming days.

Many of us took photos and would like to know which would be a better place to put all those photos in and what is the best resolution. Will a VGA resolution (640x480) be enough as it can be viewed best on the screen? Or if a full size one is required, then please suggest a good site for those photos.

Prof. Swaminathan, also came forward to share all his works which he has "parked" in 3 gmail ids as follows:-

Most of my presentations: ID: umapdkt@gmail.com
    Ebooks  sswami.ebooks@gmail.com
    Mamallai MSS  mamallai@gmail.com

You may have to log in using the above ids.Forother details please do contact me.

Please take care not to even accidentally delete the works in those sites. Afterall he hastakengreat efforts to do it.

Will writemore on this. Mr Natarajan who accompanied us, has also indicated thathe isgoing to write aTravelogue on this trip and hopingto see it soon.
  • Hi Venkatesh,

Thanks for this summary on the trip! Everybody enjoyed a lot!

For updating photos online, i would like to know if we could have a seperate Picasa or anyother tools to upload all our photo in the same site so that it will come handy..

For downloading ebooks, which site we have to go?

    Shri
  • he he...yes you're right shankar..

  • Dear Venkatesh,

I read the mails in the group site and will not be able to see the
attachment. can you please post it in the file section and give the
link? What is this about? Now my curiosity is much more as I am not
sure what the attachment has :)

really missed Mr.Swaminathan's guidance. you are all lucky...The
insight we get when accompanied by a scholar is much different from a
lay man's vision of the same thing.I have experienced that with
Dr.Kalaikovan in Mallai, Tiruvalanachizhi, Tanjai etc and Dr.Balu at
Tanjai, Pazhayarai, Patteeswaram etc. More fortunate are the varalaaru
team who used to frequent these places almost every week with the
    scholars.

Shanakara...so you are there around and made it to the trip? Good for
you. I know you would have gone there only for PS official snack and
drink (Grand sweets and Bovonto ofcourse) but disappointed. enna
    vitutu pona appadithan agum :)
As far as I remember, none of our earlier PS meet/trip was completed
without these two and ofcourse everytime our official sponsor is our
great Anna....Seyal Puyal Sundar (SPS)... :)

    Expecting a detailed travelogue...
  • Do we have answer for this ? If not, why don't we start with
    participants and all members.

What are we doing to do to spread the awareness (apart from REACH) ?

  • Thiru,

Thanks a lot for taking this out. In factI was so dejected at the condition of the Devanagari Inscription which, according to Prof. Swaminathan, probably could be the first ever DevanagariInscription of India. Similarly the Inscriptionsin Dharmaraja Mandapam and Ramanuja Mandapam are almost erodedaway. Are thesenot the testimonies tothegrand past of ourTamizh country. Why couldwe not preserve these.

I am pretty sure Awareness is the only problem. I am sure even most of the natives of Mallai do not care for it. Well even I did not realize that until Igot initiated to these by our Vijay and then by Prof. Swaminathan. So creating awareness is the needof the time.

Request members to pool in their ideas as to how do createand sustain this awareness.
