Ponniyin Selvan - The Sequel - What happened next??
  • Dear All...

Thirumurai search would have been an
    >excellent excuse for him to go around and meet people under guise..

I agree with that. I also think AV took those years off to strengthen his
rapport with the people. And what better way than to give the crown to your
Chithappaa, earn everybody's goodwill and spend 15 long in traveling to new
    places?:-)

    He was a master strategist.

You people...I wonder what a PS- The Sequel would have been like?? What
characters would have found their way in? How would the story have gone on,
from where Kalki left off? )I know Nandhpuraththu Naayaki continues...but I
didn't find it as engrossing as PS.)

    So...any ideas?:-)

Personally - I wish Kalki had described VD-Kundhavai's marriage in detail.
Would have loved to read it.
  • -Hi, Sorry, that was an error. Vimalidithan - Kundavi's (RR)
daughter got married to Rajendra's son. Latter, from their
daughter's dynasty Kulothungan came to throne - beginning of Telugu
    Cholas dynasty. Regds. SB

Oooh...but why did Kulothungan- from the daughter's line- come to the
throne? Wasn't there anyone else in the main Chola line to follow the
    previous King?

  • Hi,
    Neelakanta Sastri writes:
Rajaraja - Rajendra - Ammangadevi (one branch)
Rajaraja - Kundava married to Vimaladitya - Rajaraja Narendra
    (another Branch)
Rajendra II is born out of the wedlock between Ammangadevi & Raraja
Narendra - who is known as Kulothunga I (also known Chalukya Chola.

It is pertinent to note that ascendency moves from the male heirs to
    the female heir's dynasty.
Kulothunga II, son of Vikramacholan, grandson of Kulothunga I - has
    brought out Periyapuranam through Sekkizhar;

His son - Rajaraja II - father of Kulothunga III - ascended to the
throne latter. Rajaraja II was known as Thirubhuvanachakravarthy.
Meykeerthi : " Poomaruviya thisaimugathon padaitha perum puvi
    vilanga ..... "

When we talk of Kulothunga, it is difficult to forget Kumbakonam
Sethuraman. Aruludai Cholamandalam: Kakkapujandar Nadi says ( 1975):
    1. In the second sub-way (Surangam) of Dharasuram on the 33rd step,
    one can find the statue of Rajaja II and weapons;
    2. Southwest of Thirunallur :: Weapons are buried
    3. West of Thiruvalanchuzhi : Chalukya weapons are buried;
    4. South West of Kangaikonda Cholapuram Foreign and North Indian
articles will be found ( Bengal Vinyakar :: Maligaimedu are in this
    direction)
    5. The chief Stapathy of Dharasuram temple is reborn today. He is
named after a Snake and an archeologist ( Dr. Nagaswamy !)
    6. Rajaraja II is now re-born and is aged 51 (in 1975). He is rich in
    Malasia & shall visit Kumbakonam reg. Sakadai (automobile);
    7. The Durgai positioned in the 8th Entrance of King Rajaraja's
    palace is now at Patteeswaram
    8. Lot of hidden items will come out near Koothanur Sarswathi temple

Re other Kaalis around the palace: 1. Nallur Kali 2. Udayalur
Selvamahakali 3. Thirukkarugavur Mullaikkali 4. Cholazhan maligai :
    Ilankachiamman 5. Thiruvalanchuzhi : Ashtabujakali 6. Needur :
Mahakali 7. Patteswaram : Durgai 8. Ammangudi Durgai is known as
Kathyayini (as worshipped by Calukyas in 6 - 9 AD).

    Think exceeding Anjaiah's theory...
    Fondly, SB

The last son of Rajendra chola - athi rajendra died young without heirs.
There was quite a bit of confusion in the kingdom before kulothunga came to
    power.

It was Kulothunga who bought the much needed stability - by ruling for more
than 50 years. He concentrated on the welfare of the people - apart from
    warfare.

He was one of the earliest "chidambarams" of India, who got the
    title "Sungam Thavirtha Chozhan"
  • Dear All...

Thanks for the info, G and Mr. SB.

    SB sir...questions, questions...:-)

  • -Thank you Dr. Jaybee. I have great regards to you. Heard through
Kamal. Shall stand corrected. Regards. SB
  • Dear Kamal & Pavithra, It is D.Samivelu.
Why don't you send a mail to Dr. R.Nagaswamy and confirm?
    Fondly SB
  • Hi

My understanding is though Vandiyadevan is from Vallam in North arcot they settled in Thanjavur after the wedding....In fact Rajendra was brought u by Kundavai....

Atleast akilan says in Vengaiyin mainthan that vandiya devan was as powerful as PeriyaPazhuvettarayar in rajendras Regime...

Is there historic truth in it???

    Sri
  • Yes VD sees his younger days in Ilango (kodumbalur ilavarasan) and
tells ilango about his younger days, his seshtaigaL etc., which is
interesting. Also, Ilango is portrayed similar to VD in Vengaiyin
    Maindan.

Now I have one question to ask SB, JB, and all

Accoridng to VM, Rajendra has 2 daughters. Eldest Arulmozhi marries
Ilango Kodumbalur Ilavarasan and the younger daugter Ammangai marries
Vengi Narendran. If Arulmozhi had a son, then as per the hierarchy,
he should have come to throne and not kulothugaa who was born to
    Ammangai the youngest.

    Questions??
    Is arulmozhi character true??
If so did she have a son??
And if she had then why kulothunga came to power and not arulmozhi's
    son?
