  • Hi
the cholas in Ps claim palaiyarai and tanjore as their home town

the other charecters too have their native places.
very few are detailed in ps like kodi karai for pungkuzhali and
    kadambur for kandamaran.

    let me list the places

    malayaman- thiru koviloor
    pazuvettaraiyar - pazhuvur
    sembiyan madevi- malapaadi
    pungkuzhali- kodikarai
    maran- kadambur
    nandini- madurai(?)
    parthibendran- mamallapuram
    aniruda bramarayar - anbil(?)

Do any of our members come from these place?
or have some roots in the nearabouts?
what is the status of the places today
any religious/ historical / cultural importance.
    route to these places>

    lets discuss

  • sembiyan madevi- malapaadi

Is it Tirumalapaadi somewhere near Tiruvarur?
  • Hi,

You have forgotten Vallam of Vandiyathevan.

    Ramaswamy
  • Regarding Pazhuvur,

There is village in trichy named as Pazhuvur.and it famous for Shri Viswanathan temple for navagraha pooja.I think the village is trichy-karur road.
I heard from some sites that some cholas inscriptions found in that temple.

    Regarding Pazhayarai,

    Its near patteswaram near kumbakonam.
Lot of temples around kumbakonam and most of the temples built in chola period.

    Palace in Tanjore:

There is palace in tanjore and it not belongs to chola. The palace is Raja Serofoji's palace.

    Saraswathy mahal Library:

This library is in thanjavur. And it has lot of details about chola kingdom. If anyone have a plan to go thanjavur dont miss to visit the saraswathy mahal.

    Kadambur:
Its near very near to katturmannargudi. This kadambur is famour for one sivan temple.Katturmanaargudi founded by parantaka cholan.

    Anbil:
Anbil is in lalgudi near trichy.

Hi,This information is all just im haerd from others and also from books and net.Iam from thanjavur district. So, i know some places near that. But iam not sure this is all 100% sure.

In thanjavur district near madukur, there is lot of villages, but in chola period this are all forest.
I found one small and old temple(actually its not a temple) in one village and in very reserved area.I asked about this to my grand mother. She told once upon a time, one chola king came for huning in thsi forest and unfortunately he killed a cow.Killing a cow is not a good thing ,so he built such small temple in that forest for that cow.

Actually i did not know how much true in this matter. But its very interesting to hear thsi story.
  • Anbil -- Is it the same Anbil in the Trichy Lalgudi road. Infact its beyond
Lalgudi if I am not mistaken.

Anbil Dharmalingam / Anbil Poyyamozhi of DMK are they from the same place?

  • Dear Venkat,
an interesting topic you have come up with.Season's Greetings to our group
in advance for I am off to srinagar and leh .will miss reading the discussions.
    with warm regards,
    shanthi
  • Hi Shanthi
    on a holiday eh?
leh is the largest district in india.

they seem to have a lot of linkages with tibet mainly. the main
palace in leh is 8 or 9 stories high and looks just like the potala
palace a (unesco monument)of the dalai lama in tibet.
I think leh was once ruled by the kingdom of gorge which is at the
    fott hills of mount kailash

    have a great time.
