Attention New Members.
  • Dear Members,

There was a feeling that new members were reading all the mails but
were not getting themselves involvedwith the group. The tour proposed
by Sps today would be a nice starting point to get to know the other
members well and start interacting through the mails. So please find
time to join the proposed tour next sunday.

If not possible another tour is being planned by May 2007(dubbed
Vanthiyathevan Tour), which traces the route taken by Vanthiyathevan
in PS. Hope most would find time to attend these tour. But you don't
have to wait for the tours to send a mail, just send hello to the
group, with probably about your views of PS and kalki.

  • Dear Members,

It has been nice to get a lot of response!

Off Late I have been reading a lot of mails(almost everything) from the
    members...

Am wondering if you can give the links to the short stories (if in case
there is one!) that the members are writing!!

Learning a lot and it's been opening new dimension to the preservation
    of our culture and heritage...!

While there are non-performing half filled Vessels it is great to see
    some performers in here..!!

Though I may not be contributing anything, it's just good to be a part
    of this great community.

A brief intro : from Vellore ..banks of palar(where vandiyadevan and
kanthamaran stood guard!).....did Engineering in NIT
    Jamshedpur...Writing Software is profession..!!!

(still) Reading PS from 7th std.... Would look forward to forming a Team
for the proposed Trail anytime between May and June...

Well I have a doubt : What is the Vandiyadevan's city...is it Vallam
    near Trichy?

Or there is one tiruvallam near Vellore...on palar banks..!! it has a
older temple suggesting that the city is old...

Which might make him not frm the then chola territory ? Which sounds
    logical to me!!

    Kind Regards,

    Balaji
  • Hi Balaji

Am wondering if you can give the links to the short stories (if in case
there is one!) that the members are writing!!
    =====================================

Group contains lot of writers. Please check www.varalaaru.com for Gokul's
    writings. If you dug
the older mails you can get an interesting sci-fi written by Arun and
    another one written by Natarajan.
Vekat's book Kaviri Mainthen (a sequel to PS)was released during the last
book fair. Mr Dhivakar has released
2 books, Thirumalai Thirudan and Vamsadhara.

These are just pointers, not the complete list of writers in the group.
  • Paithra Srnivasan has translated SS in english and published the same

  • Hi Balaji,

Nice to hear that you are from Vellore...I am also from Vellore had education there...Now my parents are there..

    A.Vaidyanathan
  • hmm...me too native of Vellore. To be precise ancestory is a village
called Kadaladi near Polur. My father was born in Tiruvannamalai and
hence named Arunachalam, a common name in NA, Tiruvannamalai
district. My grandparets were settled in Vellore for more than half
a century. Vellore Jalakandeswarar temple, a master piece of
sculptures is worth seeing. Its inside the fort and hence called
    Kottai koil.

Heard stories that the lingam was removed from the temple during
muslim invasion (if I remember during Tipu sultans invasion. correct
me if I am wrong) and was protected in a secret place in
sathuvachari, outskirts of Vellore. Only during early 1980's the
lingam was brought back and consecrated.

Legend says that the English were so obsessed with the art work of
the Kalyana mandapam in the vellore fort temple that they marked the
pices and wanted to dismantle it and take it to England. When all
the pieces were marked and all set for dismantling, the ship which
came to take the pieces sank midway and hence the project was
shelved. Not sure how far its true.

Howdy, Stranger!
