many of the sri lankan history books term cholas and pandyas as enemies of buddhism.accusing them of descerating their holiest shrines.
rrc could have given grants to a buddhist temple. but never would he have posed as buddha.his larger hindu constituency would have turned against him. and like politicians who have an election to face around the corner a king was for life. he needed no gimmicks
