Thanjavur Dolls
  • Friends,

Do you have any idea of "Thanjavur thalayatti pommai"? Does it belong
to Chola period? After seeing structure of pommai, it looks like
Saraboji Raja. I guess that it's made only during the period of
Marathas. Anybody having any interesting details reg. this?

  • Dear Ramki
It is upsetting to see such a mail...
If you are going by PS they were forced by circumstances
If you are going by history each one has accomplished something great...So its easy to ridicule..
But think twice before doing so
  • ramki,
    maththadhu ellam sari.
Aditha chozhan - Nandini..? engee irunthu vanthaanga? kaRpanaikku kuuda,
    karpanai kathaapaththiram thaanaa?
  • Burindi sultan?.........

Cholas were not thalayaati pommais. They respected
their close friends and people. They took necessary
    advice from them.

Karikal Cholan took advice from his uncle and escaped
from Uraiyur. He made great history.

Rajaraja Cholan took advice from Kunadavai made him
    emperor.

Cholas respected their friends, royal relatives,
commanders, soldiers and utmost the people. That's why
their empire withstand for 450 years.

Thanjavur dolls nothing to do with the Cholas.

If you want to make show, buy some electric bulbs and
do some serious wiring in front of your house.

Make sure all focused on you and switch on. Definitely
it will make you happy. By the by, you can be like a
Thanjavur doll make worthy your show.

Never ever try to make another history(your dolls
    show) on magnificent Cholas.
  • Hi all
the problem here is that kalki was so realistic
we all end up getting mixed up with reality and the novel
we neither have info and I seriously doubt that in reality kundavai
would have been so dominant. or vanathi so passive. we were still
living in a male chauvinistic era.
but one thing we have to remember that when we talk about kundavi or
vanathi we are mostly talking about the novel.
no novel has been torn apart like this as ps and that was out of love
    for it.
we have analysed what happened before vanthiyathevan came to vira
narayana eri and finaly what happened after manimekalai died on its
    banks.
we have visited places mentioned in the novel without ever knowing
whether their equivalent real historical charecters had set their
foot on them. for example knowledgeble people in the group tell us
the sambuvarayars had little to do with kadambur.
so opinions on these charecters should be welcomed rather than
    opposed.
because it should be treated as a literary review.
    thanks all
    venketesh
  • Please do not treat my reply as opposing.

I just made another version of review on the Thanjavur

    Dolls made by Ramki.
