Hi Friends, My new pasts talks about the Mukteshvara temple at Chaudadanpura in Karnataka. A Lingayata saint named Shivadeva lived here and established a matha here. Vasundhara Filliozat, who wrote a monograph on this temple, tells that though Basava was the founder of Lingayata sect however it was Shivadeva who emerged as the savior of this sect. The temple is of the Chalukya reign and would have been constructed in twelfth century CE. There is a very unique Surya image where he is shown stood beneath a canopy made of seven hoods of a serpent.
