Could some one who has done an indepth study on Rajendra Cholan's North Indian expedition, let us know whether his expedition was only limited up to Ganjees, or further North towards the direction of Kashmir.
Where was the "Purvadesam" which has been claimed to be conquered by Rajendra Chola located in the North.
Anbulla Sivapathasekaran Avarkallukku en anbu vanakkangal.
I am pleased to read your response below.
After "Sattan Palayili", I have written a discussion on "Medieval Cholas & the Maldive Islands, and on "Medieval Cholas and their relations with Miyanmar (Burma.)
Further many years back I wrote a Research Article (in two parts)on the "Identification of Purvadesam" (also trying to identify the other regions mentioned in the Meikeerththi, supposed to have been in the north)- with evidences and my discussions based on them, but was "completely rejected" by a Retired - very Senior Epigraphist of South India.
I note in your reply to Rajendra Cholan's posting of the same title you have mentioned that "Rajendra Cholan was a friend Bhoja king (of the Paramara dynasty)and they together (with some other kings) defeated Muhammad of Gazni who invaded north India, which too I have shown with some evidence to be true.
However all were rejected by the above mentioned.
I hope to reproduce the entire article modified in to one, which was earlier written in two parts, and post it in this Forum very soon, and leave it to the "modern young Chola Historical Enthusiasts" to make their own "constructive critisisems" on same with the basic idea of picking up the grains of truth from them, and shedding off the muck (if they are found to be so by them too).
Never Rajendra and Mohammed Ghazni met each other. But it was the same time when Rajendra made his DhikVijayam to Ganges on the eastern India, Mohammed Ghazni was attacking Somnath on the west side. And I guess it was his last 18th attempt to invade India.
Rajendra didn't take a deviation from his path towards west coast to fight with Ghazni.
> India, Mohammed Ghazni was attacking Somnath on the west side. And I > guess it was his last 18th attempt to invade India.
There is another version for the popular 18 attempts that says that Ghazni never tried to invaded india in his earlier attempts. he was kind of robber with main intention of capturing some wealth/golds and went back to his country. that was what he did exactly in his earlier 17 attempts without having the aim of caputuring India & ruling it.
( ref : Madan's vanthargal ventrargal )
According to Madan , Ghazni's earlier 17 attempts were not failure. there were successful only since Ghazni had different motto for those attempts.
True....Even I have read that book which comprises the complete Muslim invaders and Mogul rulers of India.
Ghazni's all the 17 attempts were not failures but every attempt was targeted towards different places for wealth. And the last one (18th) was on Somnath and that was the time when Rajendra Chola was marching to Ganges..

- Ghazni Muhammed is from a different dynasty, Kilji was sultanate both from different times too.

Moguls were not in the scene until K III. Even so it was Babar's great Grand father time... Kafur, the great eunch of Kilji dynasty came in when the south was terribly weak.
Honestly, I would have been happy to see/read the southies united against these plunderers.
Oh how RRC / RJC / Krishna devaraya were missed in that time line,
