The fifteen days of Mahalaya Paksha consists of 15 Tithi The last day of this period, thenew moon day, called mahalaya amavasya, is considered as the most important day in the year for performing obsequies and rites. Thilatharpanapuri alias Sethalapathy is a holy place situated in Tamil nadu near Kumbakonam. This place is situated on the bank of river Arasalar where Lord Rama performed ceremony to his loving father Dasaradha.
